I purchased some brass for 45 Long colt that is drilled out for 209 primers to shoot wax slugs in my backyard. The center part of the primer is backing out on some of the primers and researching movement of my revolver and with this without any wax slugs in the brass any suggestions would be gratefully helpful. the primers that I have is federal.?

Howdy Galen, we also shoot cowboy fast draw. For wax bullets Rio is the best primer. Good Luck.

I really appreciate information I checked it out and ordered some primers  thank you

Hi Jefrow, do these wax slugs leave any wax in the barrel or do they shoot clean?

Would they exit a 20" barrel (.44 Marlin '94) and strike a target?

Can they be home-made, as I don't think they can be obtained over here in Blighty?

Hi Angel eyes
I believe they can be made homemade the ones that I bought our a very hard wax if you have a lot of time on your hands you probably could make them there are three websites that I found them on the ones that I bought are from c&r wax slugs I've only had time to fire 12 rounds not very loud. The website says they flatten out well the ones that I fired did not flatten out very much I fired them at a 8 x 8 post and they came right back at me got my attention real quick I believe they would work in a 20 inch barrel but I believe you would have loading problems in a lever action

Thanks Galen, I am working on a wax mix right now, (a hold-over from my muzzle-loading bullet lube days).

Good point about the U/L loading, its funny some of the things you don't think about when you have a project in mind!

I might convert this for 12g slugs for indoor use.

Angel Eyes,

I don't know if this is worthwhile information to you or not ....

I do some reenactment with black powder in a state park.

They state right out that what they require is that everyone use floral foam (yeah, the green stuff you put flower stems into).

It seems that the foam becomes dust before it exits the barrel and is pretty harmless.

The nice thing is that it is available nearly everywhere ...
