I have tried sass and i didnt like it that much to much hurry ,hurry.
plus i like reenactment type stuff.  but im a little show bissnes type . I light authinic stuff  but the pocket book of a pauper.
Ii have a few questions
Can Webleys , Merwins or the Bilsey be shot at your events.
I  know that the Besley is single action and the Webley and or Merwin s are  double action
.For. my little fingers have trouble cocking back the hammer even on the lighthings  and the model Ps.
Becuase of the grips. yes i tried the birdhead sbut that didnt stop the cock back problem.
Be cause i would lose my grip if i  tried to cock the weapon one handed.
Doing it two handed smake me lose  my sight picture.
dont tell me mumm you saw me working here

Others that are more in the know than me will chime in, but if it was  within the time frame it is allowed. I know the Merwin & Hulberts are, I have seen them used at a couple of matches. Double action is OK in NCOWS.

Any regular production firearm produced before 1898, or replica thereof, single or double action is OK.  Only the Rooger Bisley is not allowed because it is a modern firearm and not a repro of any existing, historic piece.  Basic rule, if they used one in 1800's, you can use it in NCOWS.  Welcome, come join the fun.

What a refreshing concept!  ;D

I've been a SASS member for awhile (even got suckered into buying a lifetime membership) but the more I see, the more disenchanted I've become. I have a background in living history.reenactment so I tend to lean that way. IMHO, the fantasy stuff is allright for some but to me, it's just a waste- I don't recall seeing people pulling gun carts all over the West- what's wrong with just shooting what you can reasonably carry such as a pistol/rifle combination?  :) What a concept!

Anyway, NCOWs looks like the ticket but most of the action seems to be focused back in Iowa thereabouts. Makes things sort of rough since I'm out in California (yeah, I know but that's the way it is). The two groups listed for California are just too far away for anything sustained. Maybe I can convince some of my pards to throw in- like me, they are not too pleased with SASS and the way they turned their back on us out here (long story and I'm sure lots will disagree but that's how I see it).

Anyway, looks good- think I'll hang around for awhile.

Hmmm...food for thought there! Just three? I like those odds already.

We like to shoot but none of us are hardcore "send the lead flying downrange by the bucketful" types. In fact some of the best fun we've had is firing our original Springfield .45-70s- we didn't really hit spit but it was fun to bring 'em back to life, so to say. The clean-up, however, wasn't too fun... ;D

Any room for gamblers? I like to run a faro board now and then... ;D

Angus, go to yhe NCOWS web site at http://www.ncows.org/index.htm and contact the office about getting a sample of The Shootist the NCOWS magazine.  In the front their is information regarding starting a posse.  I had it as a sticky on the Frontier Spot but that isn't accessable right now.  Perhaps Joss House from Bakersfield, who just formed a posse last year can chime in with some help.

Those are some neat pictures- I like your site. That's more of what I've had in mind...I think I'll go to work on some of my pards and see what I can rustle up. Thanks!

Just to add....Rules permit post 1898 manufactured guns/models when they retain features/look of the pre-1898 model. Must also be in an approved caliber (couldn't use a Webley converted to .45 ACP)...

Checked out the Ncows  site  and it seems that TEXAS must be Sass territory for NCOWS has no posses here.
But it said yoiu can make one if you can find 3 members ,hmm wonder if i can twist some of those sasser arms be cause it's no fun to play alone.

Hey Joss, I really admire what you all have done with NCOWS out there, my hat is off to you!!!  Montana Slim, that Webley in .45 ACP might not work, but I wonder if you could use .45 Auto Rims in it?  I'm betting that would work.

I actually have a Webley Mark 1, and I have some .45 Auto Rim brass, although I still need to load it up, and I don't intend to use it for NCOWS as it doesn't fit my time period (1875).  However, I WILL be using a Webley RIC in .450 Adams calibre for my pocket pistol at the National Shoot.  As a matter of fact, I just had a .45 ACP die cut off today so that I can finish loading them.  When all of that is said and done, I may put out some info about it.....

Webleys? Tell us more! I'm kind of ignorant in this area- how do they shoot? If I recall, didn't they use a .455 cartridge originally? Just curious...

I've been known to use a Reichsrevolver on occassion for gunfighting (I don't really want to risk shooting live)- it uses a 10.5 mm cartridge. For blanks, I use a 44 Russian.

Knuckles, a year ago there were a bunch of pardners that were going to try to get a Texas posse together but they didn't do it, I'm sure there are still a few folks that might want to start one down there...
