My youngest son noticed my hair was startin to turn gray in my beard and mustache , and he commented about it. I told him I was just startin to get a nice patina to me!!  ;D

Hi Will. I was watching the "making ringo rig" couse I´ll should order the proper stamps. When I was reading this, I was confused.

"Before the decorative grooves are cut, the corner flower imprints, made with the Craftools D439, should be made.  The D439 isn't the exact stamp used on the original, but it is the closest thing I've found.
The Craftools D439 is used for the edge stamping within the decorative gouges.  In the pattern, I show you where the top imprints were made.  The original maker wasn't too concerned about placement, and I have tried to replicate the image."

I Belive that u mean D617 (corner flowers), not D439. Only a notise :-[

One more question Will. What size Copper Rivets do u use? I have never worked with them so I dont realy know how to set them. But they gives the rigs some extra touch :)

Antiqued?  I sat down this evening to watch the first version of "Ben Hur", the one where they post the words between the scenes.  Shoot, I still remember when Lew Wallace wrote that book as Governor of New Mexico.  That was the best thing he ever did on the job.

That was about the time he pardoned the Stockton Gang, operatin' out of Farmington, NM.  They'd come up into Colo and rustle cows and waylay travelers.  A couple of the gang killed a lawman up in Silverton, Colo.  The miners grabbed a young black man who had been hangin' out with the gang, and lynched him, but the gang members got away.  Later, Ike Stockton turned in members of his own gang, (pretendin' to be hidin' 'em out), for the reward money.  He never did get the money and ran back to NM before we could corner him and stretch his neck.  Then, General Lew pardoned the whole gang.  Wrote a great book, but was a lousy Governor!  The Stocktons pretty much stayed south of our border after that though.

You think a 20 year reunion makes ya' feel old...

Hey BHB,

Thanks for the correction on the text.  I'll change that as soon as I get back to that program.

I used #12 copper rivets at the ends of the cartridge loops, and, to secure the buckle in the fold of the chape.  Then, I used #9 copper rivets to rivet the chape and billet to the belt body.  If you end up settin' a lot of copper rivets, the Al Stohlman rivet setting set is a good buy.

Slightly antiqued?

I remember adjusting the magnifying screen over my eight inch TV .....

And I DID have a Daisy BB Gun .... like in a 'Christmas Story' ...

All Right Lads!  (Imagine that being said in a deep baritone voice with a crisp British accent, like the Sgt. Major in "Zulu".  That's how I address my young red-headed sons every morning).

Anyway, I've got the Ringo Spur Leather "How-To" page started at the end of the Ringo pages.  Here is a direct link so you don't have to scroll through the other three pages just to see how the spur leathers are made.

http://www.willghormley-maker.com/MakingRingoRig3SpurLeathers.html

If I have room, I'll have two patterns for the Ringo Spur Leathers in the pattern pack.  One will have the details you see in these photos.  The other one will be a measurement scale so you can measure your own spur strap and make adjustments for the Ringo leathers to fit you.

Great information, Will.

It's one of the odder byways in history - when Billy the Kid surrendered his weapons to the author of Ben Hur.

Way cool Will! I have definitely got to get both the HOG and the Ringo patterns. Will Give me a couple weeks. The boss promised me some OT, so I should have some expendable cash in a couple weeks. ( I get paid every two weeks  :( )

I think he was related to a lady who took our King away from us !
Strange, you wouldn't think you could have  Billy The Kid and the Royal family in the same sentence ::).

Hey Django,

Could you elaborate a little on how he, (Lew Wallace or Billy The Kid) was related to a lady who took your King away?  I've got a broad understanding of the British Empire, but I must admit, I haven't paid too close attention to the specifics, (outside of my involvement with soldiers in Her Majesty's service).

Will
Mrs Wallis Simpson(born 1896) an American met and fell in love with Edward Prince of wales the heir to the British Throne, as Mrs Wallis was a divorcee it meant in British law that they could not marry.

Edward abdicated and left the throne to his younger brother and married Bessie wallis Simpson, a huge scandal in the day.

I am sure i read somewhere that she was related to Lew Wallace, but as the names are not spelt the same it cannot be so...perhaps she was related to Homer!! now theres an image to imagine in the British Royal Family!!!

This is a long way from the Ringo Rig, so back to it?...Will i'll say it again,... a genius piece of work!!!

Will, that tucked loook on the diamond pattern of the spur straps is brilliant! I'm going to have to try that instead of basket stamping on something. The look is outstanding.

It IS cool JD!

I believe it is one of the original old "Mexican" decorations from the early 1800s, or even earlier.  Sometimes they have something like a seeder stamp in the middle too.  Those Mexicans, what will they think of next!

Wow, Will. That is a really great explanation on the Ringo rig. The spur straps are a nice additional item. It's really fantastic that you are sharing this with everyone.

I also have to say that the diamond stamping is a fantastic look. I'll definitely use that.

Many thanks and hats off to you. 8)
