I'm a new member in SC looking for some like minded folks to form a posse.  Anyone out there?

Books OToole

Actually, just this morning I was reveiwing the membership roster and determined that there were 10 members of NCOWS who reside in Florida.  I have be mulling over how to diseminate names without violating privacy.

As an officer, I guess I could call members in a given area and ask them if it would be okay if I gave their contact information to an area coordinator for the purpose of maybe creating a new posse.

What do you think?

I certainly don't mind if my contact info is shared with other NCOWS members.

Heck our posse marshal was a SASS territorial rep for awhile.  It sure doesn't prevent someone from being a NCOWS member ;D

I sincerely hope we can put a SC posse together.  I did approach one SASS member that I shoot with, and it was as if I was speaking heresy.  I won't abandon SASS, but I would like to be affiliated with a more historically accurate group.

I know what you mean.... I was talking to a fellow about NCOW's at a W3G event
My comment was, "I wish we had a NCOW's type mind set here " (meaning in Florida !)
I was aiming (speaking wise) but not literally, at a gent in a RUGER Tee shirt.

His curt comment,  "if it say's RUGER on it,  it's Cowboy enough.... for Florida heat !"
This guy was also wearing moccasin style BEDROOM slippers  ::) complete with the plaid terry liner.
This guy, not only was a regular, he had something to do with the Range.

I'd drive the distance , you get your event together and I'll be there.
Your in Low Country right !

I'm close to Columbia.  If we could find 5 folks and a place to shoot, I'd do all of the grunt work.  There are quite a few hunt clubs in SC; perhaps an arrangement could be worked out.

Major 2

I was through there in Apr. on my to Charlotte on work related trip.

I have friend (a cop) east of Colombia and another that's a professor at USC both are or were Cavalry reenactors.
Louie used to live in Orlando, and retired from OPD, moved up your way and used to ride in my cavalry unit.
Dave on ocassion, fell in with us when we often travaled out of state to reenact.
Both would have correct attire.
Louie Rodriguez is a school resource officer I don't think in Colombia City limits, but the next county east ??, and Dave Decker is the Gamecock.

My son lives at Bonaire, GA when he is not deployed to some crappy place.  He was telling me yesterday that he was wanting to shoot again but the closest NCOWS posse was in Alabama.  Major 2 send me a PM and I will give you his telephone number.  He reacts to text better than email.

TJ...he'd be most welcome, but he is way closer to Columbia, SC & Okefinokee Outlaw

The distance is just under 3 hours drive from Warner Robbins to Columbia , and would be over 5 to Central Fla.  :(

I have the same issue North Alabama is a long haul  :-\

I've talked to a few other local SASS folks who I thought might be good NCOWS candidates, but they have either declined, or been mum.  But I'll keep trying.

And if we're successful, I will need help in becoming historically accurate, since reenacting will be new for me.

OO:

No problem on the historically correct part. You'll find NCOWS pards are among the most knowledgeable, helpful and friendly folks to be found anywhere.

Okefinokee Outlaw, my dad told me you were trying to start a posse.  I am in Warner Robins GA but I would be interested in joining your posse.  I was an NCOWS member (not sure if my membership has run out or not) and I have shot SASS off and on since the late 80s. When I was a kid my family attended rendezvous throughout the Colorado, New Mexico and Texas so I have always loved historical reenacting.  I should be in the country until X-mass time so let me know what you need and I will do my best to help out.
