I notice the holster in the pic is form fitted to the gun, would that make any difference to it staying put better while unsnapped?

That's lookin very cool Amin,i like your style.Sort of what i do when i shape hats is look at ones in the movies and try to replicate them. Can't wait to see this one finished..

The wet molding doesnt help keep the pistol in if it is unsnapped. It does keep it nice and snug in place with it snapped though!!!  ;D I got everything all cut out stitched together, and the edges slicked. This rig is very comfortable! All that is left is the color. I am still working on the color. Can't seem to get it right. SO I now have the next hurdle to try and clear!  ;D Below are some pics of the rig all together.

I went back to look at the still from the movie.  It clearly shows that the holster is sewed right up to the "knuckle" on the loading lever.

Going to Amin's holster, it seems that it is not sewn that high by about an inch.  Perhaps if the holster is sewn up past the knuckle joint of the loading lever it will stay in a bit better, especially if it is tightly fitted at that point.

Sir Charles, Pard, my holster is sewn that high. Up to the knuckle on the loading lever of the gun. I'll post a pic later today to show it with the pistol seated in it. The pic I have posted above the gun is pulled up out of the holster and not seated completely. I did notice in the movie that the snap strap seems to be formed to the rolled over snapped position even when not snapped. The gun will sit in my holster against the snap strap and not fall backward unless I bend over.

Here is a the still from the movie the movie that shows it.

amin, your Josey Wales shoulder rig turned out great pard, these aren't as easy as one would think, lots of angles and measurements go into one of these, it's not bad if it's for you, but when it's some body else with a different body shape, it can be challenging, you did well with your design and execution, and thanks for sharing with us. ;D

Got the Josey Wales Shoulder holster finished up!! I spent some time over the weekend studying Will's website, and lookin over KT and Chucks Stuff on here. I talked to KT a little about it over the weekend, and decided to go ahead and tackle the dye work. I used methods that both KT and Will recommended to achieve a worn-in finish on the leather. For my first time, I am happy with the results. I need to work on aging brass. The Beechwood Brass Black worked, but I messed up by not getting all the coating off the hardware completely, and where it took is a little to dark in my opinion. For some reason the holster is photographing much lighter than it actually is. ( Has to be the lighting! Standard photographer excuse!!  ;D ) Seriously though, it is actually a bit darker in person. This was a super fun project. I want to thank everyone who has commented, and lent advice to help me get through it. I can't thank you all enough pards! I can't wait to start my next project now!!! Below are some pics! Thanks again everyone.

Pards, I had to do a little rearranging on my website, when I updated it this last time. So some of the build pics in this thread may no longer show up.

Amin,
I don't know how you were able to create that very nice rig from those very vague pictures!  It had to have taken a lot of searching to find the pictures, then a lot of enhancing to actually see them so you could prepare a pattern.  It all paid off , though; the work you did on that rig is wonderful!! :)
