R.F. TACKABERRY practiced his saddlery trade in Fort Worth, Tx from the 1850's to the mid 1880's and was noted for his excellent work. Collector's to-day place a very high value on his work and while this holster has been modified by the owner during its period of use it still boasts a fabulous cartouche. It was originally made for a Colt SSA with a longer barrel but has been shortened and the single loop it was made with has broken from the skirt and wired in place however this could easily be repaired. This example is priced far below another on the market in similar or lesser condition. The skirt has not been altered. Double click on image for more views.

PRICE $5,950.00

Nice one, Steve. This has a slight look of the famous R. E. Rice holster in Packing Iron although there's no rivet on the loop.

Interesting that it's angled for a cross draw. I associate that with a later period.

I may try to reproduce this one...

I've been carrying guns for about 37 years, every holster I've ever used has been repaired or modified to meet my needs. It appears that the user would let the trigger guard ride over the leather that was made to cover the guard. It might not have been a cross draw, it could have been canted to the front to pull the end of the barrel up off of any seat you were sitting on. Kinda depends why or what the guy wearing the holster needed? While the holster could be restored, IMO leave it like the guy used it, to do otherwise is erasing some of the holster's history.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.
