My New Gunslinger

Just bought a used Gunslinger online and it is one sweet gun. My dealer who transferred the gun called me to say it had arrived and remarked, he had never seen a single action, that locked up as tight as this one. It is in 44-40 and I plan to use it to create a John Wayne rig for which I already have the holster and belt. Problem with the Gunslinger is that while the gun looks old, the grips look new. My plan is to fit it with two piece aged Tru-Ivory grips. Before the gun arrived I called USFA about getting some of their faux ivory grips and found myself talking with Gary Grainger. In the course of the conversation, he mentioned that the photos of the Gunslinger on their website do not reflect the current process used to age the guns. He said they changed the process because the guy doing it got tired of dressing up in a Hazmat suit. I believe my gun must have the new process. The pictures on the website show a splotchy appearance with small pits. My gun has a very consistent smooth finish in a pleasnt gun metal grey color. To get an accurate photo, go to the Ten- Ring Precision website. They carry USFA guns and their photos of the Gunslinger look like my gun. This is my second USFA gun and I think I am hooked.

We'd still like a photo! Until we get a pic, it's just a figment of your imagination.  ;D

I've seen the photos at the Ten Ring Precision website. These guns are a "MUST SEE". 8)

If you go to www.gunsinternational.com and from their list of guns pick USFA, look for the two Gunslingers offered by Kittery Trading post. I bought the 5 1/2 inch 44-40 (Guns International is a bit slow removing items after they have sold). Note the pitted appearance of the other one. I'm guessing that was the old process they used. I like mine better. Not sure why it was $215 cheaper than the .45 but I'm not complaining.

Pard,
This is probably going to get me some grief from the Colt lovers but after I bought my first USFA, I wheeled and dealed, dickered, traded, bartered and sold every Colt I owned. It is my belief that as a monetary investment the Colts are superior to the USFA's, but as a shooter I am going to go USFA. I do own quiite a few Uberti's because I like some of the period types. In my personal shooting for fun guns I have a '58 conversion, a 71/72 Open top, 4 USFA's (Colt clones), '75 Outlaw, and 2 Schofields. My favorites by far are my USFA's. They truly are rock solid and I dont think you will ever regret going in to them BUT if you do I would be plenty willing to take them off your hands ;D.

I read an article recently that described me perfectly. The author said there were collectors, shooters and then there were "accumulators". It dawned on me that I fit the latter category. I have a bunch of guns, many times more than what the newspaper writers would refer to as an "arsenal" but I don't try to acquire all the variations of this or that so I think I am an accumulator not a collector. Being only an occasional shooter, many of my guns are unfired, at least by me. Therfore, I do have to give some thought to future value. This is complicated by the fact that my year old grandson is named, believe it or not, Colt. I argued for him to be named USFA but the parents objected. I guess he is covered by the 6 Colts SAA's I have but a case could be made that he needs his own. What do you think of Uberti as a name for a granddaughter?

That might be a tough sell. But worth a shot.

I think "Uberta" would be more appropriate for a girl. ;D
