I have 2  Colts and a Kimber.  The Kimber is too modern for me if I were to shoot a WB match.  Both of my Colts are true 1911s, not even A1s.  One has been chrome plated and I have thought about having it restored to original condition since the lettering and colt are in good shape.

Blackpowder Burn

I admit that my vote is based on limited experience with one brand.  However, my Springfield 1911-A1 has performed flawlessly since I obtained it.  I'm having a ball working up loads for it and shooting Wild Bunch.  I have some black powder loads to try next. \

And yeah, I know BP is not period correct for these pistols, but I can't resist trying it.  I love the smell of sulfur and having a smoke screen to hide behind.

Take a look at the new EMF Hartford.....made for wild bunch shooting in the Traditional catagory and made in the USA by a custom gunsmith in Tennessee.  I have 4 other 1911's but this is the best shooting one to date.

Since posting back in May (5th post above this one) I acted on a long-held concern that I shouldn't really be beating up my very nice 1914 commercial-production, Canadian WWI purchase pistol pictured there, but should be getting a modestly priced mil-spec modern-made pistol for this type of shooting ....

I could have bought a brand new Norinco up here for about Cdn$400, but wouldn't be able to get it approved for entry into the United States, so that was not really a feasible option for me.  Looked at other possibilities, and ended up buying a "Regent" 1911A1, which is a mil-spec clone made in Turkey, and imported into North America by IAC.  Features which appealed to me over the Rock Island pistol were the flat blue finish (rather than parkerized) and the standard 'mil-spec 7-round mag it comes with.

What it looked like "out of the box" -

I wasn't enamored of the WWII-type checkered plastic grips, so I've replaced those with a set of inexpensive "double diamond" walnut grips.  I'd like to replace the arched mainspring housing with a flat one, to make it look even more like a 1911 ....

Have shot it a bit, and it seems well made and functions nicely.  Cost was Cdn$600. I believe they are available in the US in the $400 range, or less .......

As a matter of possible interest, the badges in the photo are a cap and collars of the 175th (Medicine Hat) Battalion, Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force ....

I had an old Colt (ca:1918) but sold it when I got an Remington Rand 1911A1. Can't bring myself to shoot it as it's in such pretty condition.
I'm going with the Metroarms American Classic. These are relatively new to the market but great finish and good reviews.
All America lies at the end of the wilderness road, and our past is not a dead past, but still lives in us. Our forefathers had civilization inside themselves, the wild outside. We live in the civilization they created, but within us the wilderness still lingers. What they dreamed, we live, and what they lived, we dream. -- T.K. Whipple

Just checked out that Metro, it looks like a dang nice gun, let us know how she holds up and performs. :-\

Exactly the reason I made myself buy the Regent I showed a few posts up!  I was cringing more than a little bit each time I dragged out my only other 1911 .... an original 1914 commercial-production Government Model, one of 5,000 bought by the Canadian Department of Militia & Defence that year, when mobilizing the First Contingent of the Canadian Expeditionary Force for Great War service ......

Howdy!
As much as I really like Colts, I use a Springfield Armory GI model.  (Ok, it's more WW2 than WW1, but SASS has never been real particular about historical accuracy, and I doubt most Wild Bunch shooters here in southern Nevada could even tell you what the differences are between a 1911 and a 1911A1.)
I don't consider WB matches a good enough reason to put wear and tear on a fine Colt...

Red Feather Roy

All I have is a Kimber Custom Pro II  :'(  Guess I will have to shoot modern.  My girlfriends dad as a 1911A1 (not sure of the year he came hom from Korea with it) and a Norico in his safe.  He is thinking of parting with one of them as he no longer shoots.  I hope its the 1911A1!

New to the forum, hi all. Just picked up a new High Standard 1911. Have had several rock islands thru the years and loved them for the money. How does the High Standard stack up against the RI's and other brands. Thanks
