Since this modification changes the gun in a drastic manner as to the ability to reload faster from the original should it be allowed in SASS sanctioned events?

My thoughts exactly.  It's entirely an internal mod so it should be allowed.

When Fireball and I did the first two of these we made darn sure that we wouldn't even come close to breaking any rules.  In fact at first we did a blind hole for the new shell guide screw so it wouldn't show until we found factory models that had that shell guide installed already. It's legal, it should be legal, it makes a fun ol gun even more fun.
He any good?
He's killed more people than smallpox!
Well hell, introduce us.

I think it should be allowed since it doesn't change the outward appearance. Where do I find more information on this modification?

What do you mean by "should be legal?"  It's an internal mod, so it IS legal.  There's no should be about it.

It's also not that drastic a mod.

I just asked the question, I haven't even given my answer.  I'm just curious as to people's opinion's.

It's like the short stroke mod on lever guns and revolvers.  Any way you slice it, it's an internal mod.  SASS has already made them legal as you can do anything you want on the inside of your guns.

If I wanted to go through the expense to re-engineer my '73 (or Ruger, or '97, or SKB, etc) to make the action run on bearings and gears instead, then that would also be legal as it's an internal mod.

The problem with starting to make some internal mods illegal, is that it's very difficult to police.  I know some that can run 2 out of an '87 (without the mod) just as fast as with it.  It's all in the technique.  The mod just reduces the fumble factor some.

Any mod that reduces the fumble factor for my fat digits is welcome. ;D
