Call Taylors and while you're on the phone with them ask about having Cody work it over for you before it leaves there.

You might also check with Long Hunter Shooting Supply (see links on this website) and with Cimarron.  I have an 1873 Cimarron that I've been very happy with.

When you get down to it, they're all made by Uberti, so quality should be the same.

FWIW,

I bought a Cody Conagher Codymatic Model '73 ... and it was one of the best inverstments I think I have ever made.

For one, Mr Conagher buys all his guns from Taylor and Company, so by buying from him I am doubly backed up with excellent customer service.

All the gun has been 'slicked ... short action job, extremely smooth and fast. And since it was done by the gunmith before I bought it, I get to send it back to Cody should some problem come up...

And third, before this I had a Model 94 in .45 LC. It would only shoot .45 LC and was very persnickety about what it would fire.

I have two Schofield pistols I compete with and used to carry .45 Schofield for the pistols and .45LC for the Winchester.

I asked Cody when he was setting Model '73 up to allow both types of ammo ... and it now is killer with Schofield ammo, and I only have to carry one type of ammo.
My moniker is my great grandfather's name. He served with the 2nd Florida Mounted Regiment in the Civil War. Afterward, he came home, packed his wife into a wagon, and was one of the first NorteAmericanos on the Frio River southwest of San Antonio ..... Kinda where present day Dilley is ...

If I bought a replica 73 I'd opt for the 44/40 since the originals were made to take that pill.  Sure it makes a ammo problem sometimes, but still.....
