I have a new IAC #A090XXX 1897 "Historically Correct" shotgun.  Haven't even unpacked or shot it yet, but I was thinking about sights.  It has a medium sized brass front ball installed now.  Long ago I shot a lot of BP double and at mid rib added a small brass shotgun bead about halfway on the 30" barrels.  This improved my sight alignment a lot and reduced my misses.  Now there is no rib on the '97, but there is space on the end of the receiver to place a very small bead.  It is a little close to the eyes but with a very small bead might suffice.  Has anyone tried this?  I know we aren't shooting at things on the wing.

Is it a violation CAS/SASS/W3G rules?  Don't want to start too much trouble as a newby.

A mid-bead is traditional way back (over two hundred years) on shotguns.  I found it very helpful.
Win AA Low Recoil / Low Noise ammo a good place to start?

Thoughts or comments?

Might have some utility on a 30" hunting gun.  Total waste of time on a 20" riot gun.  Just put a .175 bead out front and you will be good to go for CAS shooting.

Actually, my personal "short" shotguns don't have front sights.  I have even had a bunch of customers have their barrels cut and specified no front sight.  Normally as long as you can see the barrel out in front of you, the sight is just decoration at the distances we shoot.

I'll be keeping the front bead on all my shotguns  :D.....I do know how to shoot them, too....years ago I was a regular on the trap & skeet ranges here abouts. And, at CAS distances, I still see some folks miss the shotgun targets...
