Major Matt Lewis

Good Evening in the Barracks,

I am privilaged to report that I have just returned from a Zack Brown Band Concert and man, can they play well.  For a minute, I ALMOST forgot I was in Iraq.  I would like to thank Pitspitter for the Girl Scout Cookies as they were well recieved.  I am over at Camp Liberty now.  I came over from the International Zone (Green Zone).  Some of my unit is still there for a bit, but everything is wrapping up and I am focused on redeployment activities at the moment.  I am also looking for a platoon leaders slot to a unit heading to Afghanistan.  I am going to have to end up there anyway and the economy is in the toilet, so I might as well go there sooner than later.  I moved out of Operations and am now in HHD.  I like it better.  This deployment kind of stinks, but with the Iraqi elections over our job is to finish quietly and slip out the door and leave the lights on for the Iraqis.  Not a whole lot of exciting things to report, just taking it day by day.

Major Gregg,

Good to hear you are doing okay over there. Please PM your APO. Is there anything you or your guys need?

When you get to Afghanistan watch your 6. There are some really bad hombres over there.

Thanks for the report!  Glad to hear all is going well - better bored than being shot at!

I remember Camp Liberty quite well though I've heard its changed considerably since I was last there.  It was mostly a vast tent city back when.

Sing out if you need anything.

Pitspitr

Glad to hear you got them. I seem to remember a certain Girl Scout's father sending GS cookies overseas last year.
Of course, working in a school this year gave me more oppertunities to buy cookies than I could eat, so it only seemed fitting that I share some with you this year  ;)

I had to chuckle when I took them to the Post office to mail them, the post mistress asked me if there was, "anything fragil, liquid, perishable, or potentially hazardous", inside. I laughed and told her that depending on your definition, Girls Scout Cookies could be all of those.

Hope you return safely from the sandbox.  I was south in KSA and things were not as intense.  We had our moments, but it was still SOP to watch your six, three, nine and 12 and drive as fast as you could get away with.  Hard to hit a moving target.  Of course we did not have to deal with IED's or the ever present martyr.

Keep your head down and CYA!
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

A lack of "exciting things to report" is a Good Thing(tm), Richard. Great to hear from you again! Continue to endeavor to maintain your integument in an non-punctured condition. :D
