Can it be branded with a hot iron?  Tell me what to do, how to approach this, what to look out for, etc.

I don't to ruin the hide and I don't want it to be blotched (or botched, either.), and I don't want anything even remotely "tooled" or looking like it was tooled.

Just fishing for ideas here.  I don't even have a soldering iron or wood burning set anymore, and this is a one shot deal.  I was thinking of a clothes hanger "running iron".

Howdy 4T :)
A clothes hanger will work fine. I usually use
a piece of music wire with a circle bent in the end,
it seems to heat up quicker than a hanger. A drilled
dowel and JB weld for the handle helps too. HTH

*a paperclip will work too.
*take it slow and with a light touch ,buckskin is kinda thin.

Forty Rod, A hanger would work but you will want to burn the finish on it and polish it off where it will touch the skin.  I am assuming you are going to use a soldering iron for your heat source. If you use a torch it will blacken your hanger and come off on your skin. Just a thought.
Like WBC says, use a very light touch and practice on some scrap for a while until you get the feel for it and find the effect you are looking for.

Thank you both.  That's exactly what I wanted to know...and what I was hoping to hear, too.

I guess I'm off to see the wizard now.  Wish me luck.
