Okay you Skidmore's folks. I am always amazed at your before and after photos using this product. It seems to make a saddle tan into a rich light brown and a grayish walnut dye into a deep dark brown. These effects don't seem to happen the same with EVOO.

What is it about Skidmore's? Oh, if you already have a finish (like Atom wax) on a product, should you remove it somehow before applying this magical elixir named Skidmore's? I'm on the precipice of buying some.

Hello Santee

Cowboy WC, will probably chime in here at some time, but for me, I'll tell you how I like to do my finish, after dyeing, and you know I mostly use natural dyes, I condition with Lexoil first, let it dry, then I use either Neatsfoot oil or EVOO, let it dry, then Ill use Skidmores about three coats and allowing it to dry and penetrate over night between coats, I'm in no hurry, so the time doesn't matter to me, and the results are very nice, I buff the leather real good between coats to a nice sheen. That's it, I'm done, you can also put Skidmores over other finishes, and add to the pieces protection, if I have some one that wants a shinny or glossier look I use Bag-Kote for a more satin look and Tan-Kote for a more glossy look, but there are a lot of other finishes out there that are very good also, this is just what I prefer for my work. I like the oil and Skidmores look the best of all of them, it looks more natural to me, and less plastic looking than some of the others finishes, but this is just how I like my leather to look, every one has there own ideas on finishes and that's the way it should be.   Hope this helps, your leather will OXIDIZE, with any of these finishes, but I find that EVOO does it a little faster, with a little more ambering look to it, the Skidmores might contribute to this, but I'm not sure, I haven't found that Skidmores changes the color that much if any, and that's another thing I like about Skidmores, it does make your leather look richer more butterier looking, but you can do your own testing and see for yourself, and get a better understanding.

                               Regards

Howdy
TW said it all real well.
The key to Skidmores is not to get in a hurry. Make sure it is good and dry before you buff. If it is still tacky, wait.

I've got some Skidmore's Restoration Cream. Is that okay or does it have to be the plain Leather Cream?

Also - do pards find they get that amber effect when there's no sun shining? Which is quite often the case for me.....

Skeeter Lewis

I've just emailed Skidmore's and they replied promptly to say that the three products....

Leather Cream
Leather Restoration Cream
Bikers' Leather Cream

...are in fact all the same product with a different label for each market.
