I just saw that Fess Parker passed away at age 85. I had a coonskin cap as a youngster, and almost never missed an episode of his Daniel Boone series. May he rest in peace.

The time has passed so quick, the years all run together now.

Boy, that sure brought a nice feeling inside, hearing that whole tune again. Thanks Delmonico.

All the guys my age had a coon skin cap and watched Davy Crockett on tv. Even had an Old Betsy cap rifle. He was a very good man and lived good life style. Tj

My Dad saved his coon hides one year and at Christmas Mother made all of us (myself and cousins) coon skin caps. It went over really big, can't remember the year, but it was when Fess was playing Davy Crockett. Tj

Bro. TJ,  That would have been about 54 or 55 when Davy Crockett was on TV. I've got all the Disney progams on Davy on DVD. I did'nt watch Daniel Boone much.  Fess was a Texan by birth.

He was one of my hero's as Davy.  My grandfather took one of his old dog calling horns and made me a powder horn for my wooden rifle that had a piece of water pipe for a barrel.  I was hooked up.

I had a Coon skin cap and a cup and cereal bowl. The bowl got broke in the 60s. I still have the cup somewhere, hopefully I will unearth it.

I used to watch Daniel Boone on reruns in the 70s.  Mom made me a coonskin cap and a full fringed outfit.   I had several toy muskets.   I went through several of the outfits as I would wear them until they fell apart.   Never met him, but i understand he was supposed to be the real deal.  I did meet Forrest Tuckker and William Smith on trips with my dad.   Forrest Tucker was a nice guy but about two steps from three sheets.  (my dad was named Forrest, so he introduced himself).   William Smith is a heck of a nice guy and built like a brick outhouse.   movie people aren't like that anymore.
