S&W model 10 legal???

My son in law is going through his parents estate and he asked me to clean up some guns.
One that caught my eye was a Smith model 10-7 , it has fixed sights, 3 7/8 barrel,wood
grips. i was looking on the internet about it and the model 10 came out in 1899 with
the BP 38 special round. It's not on the approvrd or disapproved list, but is very similar
to the Colt police (which is approved). I'm wondering if this would be NCOWS legal

Since that version came about 'after' 1957, and the 10-7 in 1977, and since it bears zero resemblence to the early one, other than being a revolver - that's stretching the bounds of believability, I'd say.

The Model 10 lineage traces to the Model 1905.

BTB, The Smith and Wesson Model 10 is one of the finest double action revolvers ever made(my thoughts). Every US Miltary and most US police Dept. carried it for years and years. When police went to semi's you could pick them up for a song. Wish I still could, it was the first revolver I ever owned. Still have one. Bill Jorden worked with Smith and Wesson to develope the Model 19. He wanted a 357 with the same frame that the Model 10 had (K frame), not so large as the 357 Model 27 and 28 (N frame). Clean that gun up and take care of it. Tj

I've got a Model 1899 Smith revolver in 32/20 cal. It's a shade smaller than a Model 10 and it has a round butt like the Chief's Special.

Yes, the gun that came out in 1899 was the Smith&Wesson hand ejector. Fine 38 and revolver. The model 10 followed it. Later the model 36 (five shot Chief's special). Then the model 27 N frame 357. Then Bill Jordan worked with S&W to develope the K frame model 19 .357. The handejector changed every thing for S&W. Wasn't long till you had a 45 colt in the hand ejector and no more S&W top break revolvers. Smith and Wesson sure makes a GREAT revolver. Tj

Bro. TJ, I will agree with you on the Smiths. I have carried most every model that they made at one time or other as a Leo. I never cared for their semi-autos, I never liked the second shot. I carried the original Model 39 in 1970 and a 469 and 669 in the early 80s.

I have a S&W Military & Police Revolver made in 1903....with 6 1/2 inch barrel and round butt. It's tight as a bank vault, and it's a GREAT shooter! On the side of the barrel, it's stamped '.38 S&W Special and .38 Colt U.S. Service Round' (or something like that...

).

My first duty gun was a S&W Military & Police in .38 Special with a 6 inch barrel and square butt....made in the 1920s....

O.T., The first handgun I ever owned was a model 10 in 38 spl. four inch barrel. On that barrel was written U. S. Property. That's the handgun I learned how to shoot with. I still have a model 10, but not that one. Just wonder how many of those guns were made? Fine weapon. Tj

I did some fast research on my 32/20 Smith. It is a First Model Hand Ejector. It has a 4 inch barrel and a 4 digit serial number under 5200.

I have a VICTORY model S&W in .38-200 (.38 S&W) great shooter, and I can heat up the loads for it. I had a .357 Mag, K frame with 4 inch barrel, but I traded it off, Can't remember what for or why!

According to Flayderman SN were from 1 to 5,311 and were made from 1899 to 1902.
