I don't have the skill or time, but I'd love to have a 49 colt converted to a 6 shot in 22LR.  Anybody out there have the skill to do a job like this?

Thanks

Should add that I'm realy looking for a new six shot cylinder, with preferably a loading gate to keep rounds from fallling out while carying.

I have thought of just milling out the old cylinder and siliver soldering linners in, but that'd leave me with only 5 shots, figured if I was going to the trouble, might as well go all the way get a whole new cylinder made and already chambered in 22LR.

Thanks,

The conversion to 22 lr is pretty straight forward.

Sleeve the chambers and cut the 22lr with reamer. Line the barrel to .223.

I would soft solder in the sleeves in cylinder and barrel "using rosin flux" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  That way there is no trapped acid flux to cause corrosion creaping out later. There is no need to silver braze anything.

The hammer needs to be converted to rim fire, and would rivet it on like the original conversions were.

The hand and rachet don't need to be changed, as there is enough meat around the small rim of the case.

The breech ring is a little work, but nothing too hard.

A ejector would have to be made, if one wanted that aalso.

I am a full time gunsmith and have not done this conversion, but a gunsmith friend of mine is involved in this same conversion at this time.

I would have to ask him what he would charge, or if I did it, I would have to do the math as far as hours of labor in it. It would not be a real cheap conversion as there would be quite a bit of time involved in it.

The revolver is timed for 5 shots.  Changing it to a Six Shooter would be very expensive, if possible.

Not necessarily.  The 6 shot 32 S&W R&D cylinder I have for my Uberti '49 pocket model works just fine with no smithing required.

The original pocket models came in either five or six shot configuration.  The only difference in parts for them is the cylinder (ok, or barrel lenght).

Wil52100: You might ask "Raven". He shot me a price of doing a conversion just like your asking about. Hope this helped.
