You pards are showing some very nice butt covers, we like pictures, so thanks for sharing, I agree Freedom, I think you get more stability when the sides are supported by some sort of cover in the butt itself, the more weight you have hanging there the more slippage you will end up having, IMHO.

Nice butt covers, N40W111, TW. The loops add to them.

Those sure do look nice!
I have made so many of these that I am not even sure if I like to make them anymore..Well...maybe still like to do them a little bit
I have found that when loops are added to them that the buttplate needs to be included or they will slip forward during recoil.... I have tried just about everything to hold them in place.. Seems it is the weight of the shells in the holder and not really the recoil that makes them move.. 357 mags will stay but a 45-70 will move no matter how light I load the ammo.
I have used rawhide to re-enforce the lacing holes since I started making these.. I really like the look I get from rawhide but I don't think it is nessassary..

Freedom
That is a nice design for a butt cover. It is one piece isn't it? That would sure cut down on the hand stitching.
I don't see the rawhide though.

Joe...
Yes the body is all one piece.. the rawhide is the amber strips that the laces go through.... lot of rawhide is bleached (and not real good  :-\),,, the good rawhide is amber colored and you can see through it.

Nice sunrise :D

Now that looks pretty cool! I've never seen a butt cover like that before.
Does the laceing cut into the shoulder when you shoot the rifle?

Bad Hombre

Thanks for the kind words !!!
The Lacing is soft but does grip fairly well...that's the idea!!
I like the look and use them on most all my long guns.

I thought I might as well throw this butt cover in the pot, I made it for my Sharps rifle a couple years ago.

It's dyed in my natural walnut dye.
