If a feller had a brass ring and he wanted to wrap it in one single leather lace of supple elk or deer  say 1/4 inch wide,how long would the lace have to be?Is there a recipe for lack of a better word for that? Back hurtin so bad i can't think.. :(

This long. <--------------------------------------------------------------->

I dunno Rick. Wrap it with paper first, then you will know. Of course, cut a little more than you think.

You need to know the ring diameter and the ring thickness, then it can be calculated. Or barring that , just take a good guess and cut it two feet longer.Dave  :)

This brass looking ring that the wife gave me sum years back looks like it might take five to six inches to wrap???  OOOH, if you are talking about the ring she put in my nose, I'll have to recalculate fer that one!

Biscuit Joe

well to be exact you would need say...
PI ( R squared)/(divided by 1/4" L )+ D - PI  :o :o

;D
sorry couldn't resist. say does the resist thing block me out? ;)

I'm trying to reteach myself how to do dream catchers,been a long time since i made any and i want to use some of the ideas i have learned here as far as astetics.I tweaked my back again and it's all i can do to walk right now,can't even sit to write this.The hardest part is the weaving in the ring and finding long enough lacing.It has to be thin to make the best ones and 1/4 inch wide works best for me..Never fails when i want to do something my back acts up.FLAPJABBERINRABBITFURINHINAKINVONSNOTLOGGINNOGOOD!!!!!!!!! >:(

Rick, sounds very similar to the one the wife installed except she calls hers Robby catchers!

     Rick, if you're going to use leather lace, you can always splice more on if you run short, I had to do this several times and it works fine, just make sure you use contact cement, and skive about 3/8" of an inch on the ends, the top on one the bottom on the other, and skive it thin enough and taper that there isn't any leather standing proud that could be torn as you do your weaving.After cementing, lightly tap it down with a smooth headed hammer.
