Ran across the following.  Any validity to the statement?

"It was thought that the Arabian horses would find great favor in the west but they never did catch on.  Oh, it was agreed that they were good animals, and fine to ride, but the cowboy just wouldn't have a horse that wouldn't buck when you got on him in the morning.  He didn't want a horse that was trained until it had no spirit of it's own.  This horse was a friend and not just a tool of the trade.  The cowboy might ride his horse the first day it was caught, while the Arabian was usually trained for four years before he would know the weight of a man."

Yep, there's some validity to the sentiment.  Arabs are generally thought to be a little flighty, known to have great stamina, but lack the burst of speed and agility to chase cows through brush and rock.  There's them that think their legs are too skinny and don't have the strength to fight a stubborn cow at the end of a rope.  And there's some validity to those sentiments also.  This is primary reason the Morgan and Spanish barb mix with a little thoroughbred thrown in found such favor among cowboy and horsemen of the west.  (Now known as the American Quarter Horse)
Although lacking the pure speed of the thoroughbred and burst of speed of the quarter horse, the Arab is fully capable of going great distances as they are predominately the favored horses in endurance racing.

While Capt. works on his link, let's try this one.

The Durango Kid rode Raider, but what was the name of the horse Charles Starrett rode when he wasn't the Durango Kid?

Gonna try again.  Name horse and/or rider.  Bonus for naming both.

(Don't look like that horse gonna get up an' run, no matter how much he lays that spur into him ;D)

Again, if the link doesn't work, please let me know.

You're half way there with the rider, and that's pretty dang good in my book ;).  Need a little work on the horse (might help if he was standin' up sos you could tell how tall he was, but he said neigh to that idea) :P

Four-Eyed Buck

That horse is pretty good actor too. Wonder if it's a subscriber to method acting.........Buck 8) ::) ;)

According to the info I have, that was "Old Blue", his first trick horse.

With out his Trademark hat he sure looks different. Tony was the only horse I remember him having. Not to say he didn't have others.  I wish I could keep Pea Eye down like that ;D As long as I sit on him sideways. But if I get up so does he.
