Howdy all,
Been considering the brand new Blackhawk that Ruger has out, in the 327 cal.  There is one locally for sale, and I looked at it yesterday.  A real nice lookin' revolver!
Probably not alot of them around yet, but I was wondering if anyone had some comments on the 327 model?
Thanks!

That 327 Cal is just a lenghtened 32 mag.  The 32 mag has a SAMMI max pressure of around 20,000 psi because of the HR's it first came out in.  What the 327 does is duplicate what a lot of us have been doing with the 32 mag in Rugers for about 25 years.  I have a Single-Six in 32 mag and have for almost 25 years.  In short the hot loaded 32 mag is a neat, flat shooting, low recoil round that will do 99.9% of what folks need in a outdoor handgun.  The 327 would be the same, almost a shame to see they are not putting it in a single-six for the lighter weight.

Thanks for the info. I had read about the reference to the 32 on an ammo site.  I agree....if the 327 was in a Single Six frame or NM Vaquero, I'd buy it in a heartbeat!  Think I'll go take another look at it tomorrow.....seems to be calling my name! LOL  ;D

Oh you'll love it, I like the Single-Six for it's size, but would not turn down a Blackhawk in either round.  With mine the 85 gr Hornaday HP pushed hard is a nasty varmint round, with the 118 gr FN I would not be aftaid to take a deer at 50 yards or so, those suckers penatrate deep.

Blackpowder Burn

I read a review in Shooting Times last year, and if I recall correctly they have a heavy bullet load (approx 125 grain) that closely duplicates the 125 grain 357 mag loads.  It also lets them put 6 rounds in a small frame like the SP101 Ruger instead of 5 round of 357 Mag.

Two things: How close does this .327 Ruger come to duplicating the .30 Carbine (with its attendant noise and recoil); I wonder if they will have any problems with gas cutting of the frame that they had with the .357 Maximum?

Much less recoil and noise although the heavy loads can bark (This is based on 25 years of loading 32 mag to 327 levels)  My Single-six has thousands of these rounds through it and no gas cutting.  Of course with the hot 32 mag and 327 were talking 35,000 or so psi, the 357 max was operating at about 55-60,000 psi.

In one of the original articles on this round, the same comments were made on the single six's being a great platform.  The writer noted that Ruger stated that it would not fit lengthwise in the cylinder, though the author indicated that it seemed to him it would fit nicely.  It was from Shooting Times or Guns and Ammo as I recall, and I think that it was Jim Wilson that wrote the article.  He like the round alot in the SP101.

Interesting, not sure what the OAL of the 327 is, but there is room for a bit more over the 32 mag with a Lyman 311316 seated, I'm sure I read one time that Hamilton Bowen was making 5 shot 357's on the SSM Single-Six.
