The Jefferson Outlaws' second annual "Shootout at Leadville" is in the books. As with last year, it was an intimate little affair, involving three posses and a total of forty shooters.

Overall winner was Chuckaroo, who also dominated the men's side matches. The women's side match winner in all categories was Kiddo Caldwell.

Side match day was balmy, but rain set in before dusk. Friday saw temperatures hovering around 50, with steady winds and rainfall that was intermittently heavy. Thirty-nine intrepid shooters turned out; number forty bailed because of a family emergency, and was back the next day. We shot three of the planned five stages before hypothermia and wet clothing forced a stop. Match Director Oracle Jones had the foresight to make sure all posses shot the same three stages, so the scoring would be consistent.

By Saturday morning, skies had cleared, the ground had drained and dried considerably, and the temperatures were a comfortable sixty-something. We raised the flag on schedule, and shot six stages, instead of the planned five. Oracle and his dedicated crew of waddies had set up an extra stage and changed the setup on the three we'd finished the day before, so that only one stage was lost in the offing.

As the cliché goes, a good time was had by all, and we are starting to plan next year's match. This friendly little shoot has a capacity of 80 shooters, and we are hoping, between now and next May, to attract some more participants. We'll keep you posted as plans develop.
