Howdy everyone.
Would it be appropriate to use a civil war sack coat for a post civil war (1872-1873) cavalry trooper display, or should I try to locate a 5 button 1870's style sack coat? I would like to find a small size sack coat to disply on a half bust mannequin I have.

Thanks,

Drydock

While the 4 button sack coat was officialy superceded, first in 1872 by a 9 button pleated blouse, then in 1874 by the 5 button sack, 4 button sacks continued to be issued until remaining stocks were officaily discarded in 1880.  For the time period you describe (1872-1873) the 4 button is fine.
Civilize them with a Krag . . .

S&S Firearms has new 4 button sack coats for $55.00. The 1874 5 button for $65.00.

Dag nab it! Sure wish I'd checked this first....just bought a four button off ebay. I would have gotten  that five button for sure.

Thanks anyway Dusty
