Well I had been looking at buying a Colt Walker 47, but couldnt afford it so I thought I would try something different for my first cap&ball and my research kept bringing me back to the Remington 1858 for some reason, not sure why.

Long story short....bought one off of Gunbroker. I havent received it yet but I am anxiously awaiting it arrival. Ultimately I want to convert it but that will have to wait for the next cash train.... ;D  ;D  ;D

Did ya all notice that northwestgrizzly said "my first '58"   :o  ya just gotta know that it means there WILL be more!  Take a good gander at wolfgang's photos - he has soooooooo many of these pesky little varmits that ya would think he'd be a feedin' 'em birth control pills!  But hey . . . . when they reproduce and turn out as pretty as his, I guess you just gotta let 'em play like bunnies and let nature take its course!   ;D  By the way wolfgang - I checked out the photo of your latest project sitting in the case you found - when yo get the partitions in, that is going to be one beautiful set!   :o  Good luck with your new pistol when you get it northwest - you're gonna fall in love and want more!   ;D

Got it today after a small shipping SNAFU. I'm fortunate to have received it at all to be honest but its here. Needs a bit of cleaning and the cocking action seems a bit stiff but other than that it looks and feels great!

Hey folks, how stiff is the cocking action on ya'lls 58? The one I just got is pretty stiff and I am wondering if thats normal? Thank you.

I had a stainless that was a bear, took it to a smith and 30.00 later it was a dream.Said all he did was smooth out internals and can't remember what he did to the spring, but you'll find out soon.
Bunch a ole scudders!

I took it apart last night and started to clean it but didnt get far before having to get ready to go to work. The mainspring was difficult to get back in until I figured out the trick to do it. Still lots of cleaning left on it however.
