Forty Rod

I copied mine from one in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers museum in SLC.  I was said to have belonged to Bill Hickman (a relative by marriage, but not an ancestor) and I hadn't seen it in over 15 years before I cut mine down.  I last saw it in about 1961-1962 or so.

Hoof Hearted, That is just way to cool. When asked whats my favorite gun of all time I say Dallas Stoudenmires snubby OT.

I cut down an 1860 about a dozen years ago.  The barrel ends just at the lug.  Left the grip shape and size alone but did fit smooth stag to it.  I had a rifle sight left over from some project sitting in my parts drawer.  Now it sits on my revolver.  Sighted in at 25 yards it is a lot of fun.  Never did a conversion for it, maybe I will some time.

Short Knife Johnson

I would like to perform such an undertaking, but the problem here in the Dominion is it would change the legal status of the pistol.  To bob the barrel to less than 4.14" (105mm) would make it a 12(6) prohibited firearm.  Fortunatly, I hold a 12(6) license.  It would be legal for me to do so, but the resale value would be near nothing.  Maybe locating a cheap used C&B and spare barrel would solve the problem.

Sir Charles deMouton-Black

Short Knife;  It would be kinda neat, but almost as neat and more practical to leave the barrel at least to legal length. My Capnball pocket piece is an 1862 Police with a 4.5" bbl.  It is compact and still useful arm.

Hey, that's my line!

I thought you'd all be tired of seeing this old photo but since you asked.  Here it is before the front sight adjusted.

And least you think it is my only snub barreled revolver, here is another one.

Short Knife Johnson, here is an 1851 with a short yet still legal barrel for you.

This is the one I will restock in smooth stag (or maybe holly) and I may fit a conversion cylinder to it.  If I can find one in 41 Colt for the right price.

That Walker needs about 1/2 an inch more front sight ;D

I guess Sir Charles is right as always.   ;D  106 or 107 mm barrel would not be the cause of my spiritual undoing.  Nice looking piece you have there strawhat.  I'll have to keep an ear to the ground for something.

I can't find the newer photo but that is a 5" barrel.  I originally intended to cut the barrel at the lug and drill an new hole to accept a .452 bored barrel and "restore" it to a 9" barrel.  After handling and shooting it, the 5" pipe has grown on me.  Will it ever replace my 1860 snub nosed?  Not hardly!!  However, after handling it for a while, you'd be suprised how easy it is to handle the 1860!!

New photo shows the new fore sight I dovetailed on, when I find it, I'll post.

Yeah, you have the 41 LC.  Too much month at the end of my money!  (But I am working on it.)

Hoof Hearted,

I took new photo, showing front sight and lack of loading lever.  The sight is a rifle sight I let into the barrel and then filed it to hit at 25 yards.  I may sight it for a longer range 75 or even 100 yards but for now, 25 is enough.

Kind of has that "hot rod" sedan look (like a 53 Buick 4 door) ;D

I'd be real tempted to lop the barrel off at the lug and leave it that way.  Probably work out to 3.5 or 3.75 and that would make for a really cool Walker!!
