All I can say is WOW!!!

That is EXACTLY the gun I am lookin for. I personally would prefer a sight on the end, but it still looks great with out one.

If you have one up for sale at a fairly reasonable price. Look me up

I can "do" one for ya.............the reasonable part would depend on what parts YOU have on hand.
We'd need an 1860 donor gun, and an 1851 grip frame (obviously of the same manufacture), a conversion cylinder of your choice (if you want it converted). The rest is my work and I think you would find my rates reasonable.........

If this interests you give me a shout via PM and include a number to call you at!

I would put a front sight on it.  I have a front sighted 1858 by Jay Strite with a 3.5in bbl.  Shoots very good at 15 yards.  Do you see any problem or special considerations for the Colt rear sight?

These shortys are way fun to shoot to.
Could not notis any loss of accuracy with mine.
The loading ram is still working but kept in the bag untill needed.
Next project is to have the checkerd ivory (realy plastic ::)) grip fitted.

Anybody ever make a snubby out of an 1849 pocket or Wells Fargo model?  Now that would be a real small one ;D

I believe Colt did..............

But IMHO that is a pretty small pistol already and making it smaller would not make a lot of difference.
My next thought is a 44 Remington Pepperbox......................

I've seen several Wells Fargo models with the barrel cut back to the lug.
Kinda neat in an ugly sorta way 8)
You can definatly hide the gun in the palm of your hand. I have one in the works will post photos when it's done

I cut a Centaure down in the '70s.  I never put a sight on it and at 15 yards or so it didn't make a bit of difference.   I never shot it much past that.

I left everything stock 1860 but the barrel.  I thinkI cut mine even shorter than you did, but the gun was stolen years ago and I don't remember for sure.

Sorry some "low life" stole from you!
I wonder if it was the one that we were all posting about a while back that was on Gunbroker?

Mine was stolen...along with a dozen other handguns and a rifle...by a "friend"of my son about 1984.  I suspect he swapped it for pot and doubt that it still exists.

I could never prove that he took it and I never got even, but he was killed in a motorcycle / SUV crash in Vegas a couple of years ago, so I called off the grudge.

Colt made one.  The so-called Wells Fargo model had a three inch barrel.  Here is one with the extremely rare loading lever attached.  Colt only made a few with the loading lever since it was basically useless.

I though of the same thing,  HH,  see the 1st photo

I have collection of AA's photos

Strange world, I too had a pair of 2nd Gen Colts ( a 3rd Dragoon & a Walker ) stolen by a low life, he too was taken out early,
he,  in deer & motorcycle crash....
Unlike you though , I still resent his transgression
when planets align...do the deal !

Forty Rod

Mine looked very much like the second gun but without the front sight.  I really bobbed it off short.

the second is the real deal from a private colection.
