Remington Beals Look-A-Like

Just finished this "Beals from an Army" conversion for SCORRS member RebHolister

This started life as a Euroarms New Model Army

Still needs a Beals "cone" style front sight

Lots of minor changes and tweaks.......biggest ones being the rammer and Hammer!

Ya'll get to see it even before he does!

Aside from the loading lever contour and the barrel threads concealed at the rear by the frame (and how in the world did you do that?), and the cone sight, what were the differences between the two?

The Euroarms of America Remingtons, both .36 and .44, come with the Beals type frame though they call it the model 1858. I like the modification of the loading lever.

The Euroarms are also a bit smaller over all ( particularly the grip ) than the Pietta replicas. I bought one a year ago and while nice was too small for my hands. Gave it to my brother for Christmas. http://www.drburkholter.com/cf17.html. Great job, Hoof! Really like the look of that loading lever. Did you alter the position of the hammer spur by heating & prodding upwards? Should be fun doing a brass cone site for that,...brass being easier to work.

Howdy Denny!

Heating and bending results in a bit too much distortion on the sides and the Beals hammer is more "dianty" than the New Model Army, so I do quite a bit of reshaping/cold bending and have it down now to the point of still reatining the case colors on the sides. On the Beals i do a real fine checkering instead of the coarse checkering found on the New Models.

Did you ever get that rechambered cylinder fit to yer 1875?

Naw, I have to borrow time on one. It's a real PITA!
Also can add a lot of time to a build.......................

It does give me the abilty to call this a hobby though!

Hoof,...yes, I got it fit with no problems , just taking very little off the front & back of cyl. Loaded up some .44 Colt BP loads and put 50 rounds through her,.....smooth as Bourbon.

Thanks again for all your help with getting this .357 cylinder rechambered. It's great to have an 1875 which can shoot .44/40, .44 Colt, .44 Russian

I'm glad it worked out............the reamer situation was unfortunate. I knew that was too large a jump for one reamer!
Good thing was "experimenting" proved me right. I ended up with the cylinder that I replaced. It now sports a brass plug in the bad hole and is a "five shot". I then bought a gun in 45 Colt and intend to make a "heel base" 44 caliber 1875. I'm going to completely refinish the pistol and mark it 44 on the grip and install a lanyard. Should be pretty neat!

That's a great idea ! Did you get an older 1875 with the post front site? Have you tried fitting the "5 shot" cyl. in it, and does it fit & cycle ok? I'm sure you've probably checked that all out ..

That'll be real neat.

It's on the stage...........I finished an extra cylinder (without proof marks) and fitted it to the pistol.
