What Kirst Converters do you have available for the '58 Remmies?  Which gun manufacturer, caliber and what style converters (orriginal, CW or ported) ?

Raven

Slowhand Bob,

I have them for Pietta or Uberti
Ported, CW, and some discontinued models - unported, ported with the thumb tab, and ported no gate.
.45 Colt, .45 ACP and .44 Colt
All new in the box

I also have a few cylinders available for special chamberings although I may not have the reamer available for the caliber of your choice. These are only available chambered in house (I can't sell you a blank)

I am the gunsmith for the Kirst Company.
These are from my "Trade Allowance"

AHA, lets make this about information and I will PM you on buisiness stuff.  I have two questions that you should be just the man to answer.  First, do I understand right on the Remmington back plates being interchangeable between the Pietta and Uberti guns with the cylinder being the difference?  I have a couple of other questions but I will handle them one at a time to keep the thread fresh.

Raven

You are correct on the 58 Rem the rings are the same the difference is in the cylinder.

With the Colts the ring and cylinder are specific to the manufacturer.

I have two cylinders in 45colt that are to tight between the plate and cylinder causing case rims to jam.  My thought was to lap the front of the cylinder but another shooter has told me to do it at the front of the plate because the cylinder controls the over all length and that functions fine when a case is not present.  Isnt this what comes under head space and would I possibly be ruining the plate for use with other guns?

Raven

Hey Slowhand Bob,

The last thing you should do is remove material from the front of the ring!
This would cause a host of problems including increasing firing pin protrusion.
The solution is to remove material from the front of the cylinder.

Lately we have noticed that Pietta has sharpened the broach used to cut the cylinder opening facilitating the need for a slightly shorter cylinder.
Measure the cylinder from the back of the ratchet to the muzzle  and with the ring and cartridges in place from the back of the ring to the muzzle of the cylinder in thousanths of an inch.
Overall length should be 2.020 inches +.000 -.005 for the Pietta and 2.00 inches +.000 -.005 for the Uberti

I suppose it is possible that you have a cylinder that is on the long side and a batch of brass with thick rims.

Anyway the solution is to shorten the cylinder from the muzzle!
When you remove material from the muzzle as long as you stay within these specs you will be fine.

Bob, if you run into any problems give me a call and we will get it taken care of!

I've been looking for a conversion cylinder for my 1863 Remington Pocket pistol for years.
I even ordered an R&D cylinder from Taylor's on 2 different occasions.
I never got one.

Raven, I noticed you don't have one listed on your website. Are they still under development?
Can we expect to see them for sale anytime soon?

You can PM me.
Sorry for the hijack.

Raven,
I guess you saw my post on the Buffalo pistols.
I have a IAB-Sile "1874 Sharps saddle ring carbine" 45-70 with new walnut stocks from Track of the Wolf to replace the junk that came on the gun. It has a medium range creedmore tang sight, patch box inlet in butt stock. If this is something like what you are looking for, email me at ujhale at gmail dot com and we'll talk about what might work into a trade.
I'd like to eventually end up with either 45LC or 45ACP non gated blue cylinders for my Pietta's (fitted if necessary). No great rush, maybe you can be on the look out for some (used would be fine).
Or trade for something else and let you sell them with Kirst cylinders.

Raven, it is my understanding that not all of the tiny '63s Rems were created equal.  I seem to remember talk that many of these can be expected to require gunsmith installation and that perhaps there is a date, before which, it could be expected??  If this is true, how would I tell on my pair of steel frames?

Raven here are some items that I have that are trade stock....

Raven

Hi Slowhand Bob,

The way I understand it Pietta had several different machine shops making parts for the 63 Remington This led to certain fitting issues and we had to shelve the converter for a while. They have recently resolved these issues making it possible to release the 63 again.
The 63 converter will be a virtual "drop in" for the newer 63's ( some adjustment of the foot may be necessary)
Older 63's may need to have the Hand or Pawl (depending on which nomenclature you use) lengthened or shortened depending on the revolver. The "Hand or Pawl" in Italian guns are very soft and can be lengthened significantly! So you shouldn't need to buy parts
The 63 converter droped right in to my revolver serial # H007XXX with no problems.
We offer installation of any Kirst converter for $65 + $20 return shipping. Instalation includes cutting the loading channel on appropriate models, timing, and refinish. With the 63 we recommend you try installation yourself if you run into timing issues you cannot resolve send it to us and we will take care of it for you
