Still feeling giddy so I thought I'd share what happened at today's shoot.

Stage 1, after about the 3 shot went down range, the targets were all but hidden by the smoke and  I could hear the timer choking and the counters asking how they were to count misses when they couldn't see the targets. Picked up the rifle and gave everyone a few seconds to clear their lungs as the 45lc Marlin I have only used smokeyless due to the blowback problems it has)  About the time folks could see again the stage writer was nice enough to have included 7 shotgun targets which I allowed me to fill the air with a nice thick blanket of smoke again.  While walking to the unloading table there were alot of questions about what was in my loads.  The reply was a full case of smoke  ;D  I told em my motto was if they can't see the targets, they can't say ya missed.

The rest of the stages rather than asking "is the shooter ready", it was modified to "is the SMOKER ready" then you heard the timer, and everyone else for that matter take a deep breath before you heard the buzzer.

I did have a coupe of stages I had to ask the timer if the shotgun target fell because I couldn't see it either.

One of the most enjoyable matches I've been to and everyone on the posse was a pleasure to shoot with.

Happy trails

Don't worry about blowback in your Marlin, they're too easy to clean. After you clean the barrel, take a spray bottle full of Moose Milk or other water based cleaner and spray into the open action. Swish an old toothbrush around in there and then blow it out with compressed air. Nice and clean. Then dry it over a heater vent or on the open oven door. The Ballistol in the Moose Milk will prevent rust and keep things lubed. Then, if you think about it, strip it down once a year or so for a detail cleaning.

Blackpowder Burn

Load a 250 grain PRS Big Lube bullet over a case full of black powder.  You will be able to shoot the entire day without cleaning.  Then just run a few patches with moose milk down the bore, a couple of dry patches - then you're done!

I have the same rifle.  You can shoot a full day with no problem, but you do need to clean it before shooting a second day.  Some day you will want a rifle chambered for a bottleneck case.  If you use the BL's with them, they will shoot literally forever before cleaning.

Two Rivers,
It doesn't get much better than hearing spotters ask "Do you think you have enough powder in those things?" 30grs powder in the C&B makes for lotsa fun as does 80grs in the 12ga. It's even more fun in the winter when it is drizzly and no wind the smoke lays in like a fog bank and you can see flame & sparks when there's low light conditions. You know you "done good" when you blow your nose and it's black.  :P
