Howdy!

I don't own the Ruger Old Army, but if it's HALF as stout as the Ruger products I DO (or have) owned, I'll bet that your stock cylinder will do just fine.

That leaves the conversion cylinder.  I'd buy one, instead of ending up with 2 C&B cylinders.  Their advert blurb says that their metal is 3 times as strong.  I believe them, but what's the point?  I happen to know of one of the pards here who - on a lark - filled his Ruger cylinder with 4F  BP, and it stayed in one piece and he still shoots it regularly!

Don't try this stunt at home, kidz!   I brought it up ONLY to point out that while their cylinder is advertised as 3X as strong as Ruger's, the Ruger cylinder is probably 3X as strong as just about anything ELSE out there!  (Yes, that may be an exaggeration, but I think you get my point!)

IMHO - buy the conversion cylinder if you really feel the need to spend the money Grandma & Grandpa sent ya for Christmas!

;)

Of course, different strokes for different folks.  (I bet ya THOUGHT I was gonna say "Yer mileage may vary."  Fooled ya!)

They don't mention it, but on some guns when you get the loading gate version you have to modify the gun to work properly. If you do this then your gun is now a regular cartridge gun and can't be sold as a Cap and Ball anymore.

Actually, I don't think it can be sold at all anymore........unless you have a manufactures license and Serial number to put on the modified gun.

Thats a real good question! So i asked them about it heres part of what they sent me

there has been some concerns raised about our loading gate design making the gun a firearm due to frame modification. This version comes in two iterations, the first allows the cylinder to pivot to the side to access for loading and unloading, and requires no frame modification. The second would require a frame modification just like any other 19th century conversion.

I asked when they might have some pictures on site, i'm paring it down to 'when we get a chance'. They do answer if you write them so i did!

Boomboom plannin a cylinder buyin trip this week.
