Howdy Kid, the reason the 30-30 is not legal for main match use is that it is a rifle cartridge, not a pistol cartridge.  Plenty of 20th century calibers are legal (44mag, 44spcl, .357mag, etc).  The 30-30 (with lead bullet)  is legal for longrange lever-action sidematches.

The 30-30 cartridge (30 WCF) was developed for the Winchester Model 1894 rifle. The first versions of the 1894 were only chambered for 38-55 and 32-40. By 1895 production problems with the 30-30 cartridge were straightened out and it went into production and was chambered in the Model 1894.

As stated, the reason 30-30 is not legal as a main match cartridge is because it is a rifle cartridge. It is too long and too powerful to be chambered in any revolver. Year of development has nothing to do with what cartridges are allowed as rifle cartridges in CAS. Numerous cartridges developed after 1899 are legal CAS Main Match cartridges for both rifle and pistol. Some examples are 44 Special (1907 or 1908 depending on who you read), 357 Magnum (1935), and 44 Magnum (1955).
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

what about the steoger coach gun i dunno if it has extractor or ejectors. they make one with 2 triggers but no hammers. it wouldnt be classified as classic cowboy but i dunno if you can use them. i have seen some nirincho and cimmaron SxS. are they reliable or would the pumps with a hammer be the way to go?

10-4 on that driftwood i looked up its velocity and was like 1000 or 1100.

Stoeger Coach Gun has extractors, not ejectors.

Reliability out of the box seems to be the luck of the draw.

The double trigger version is more likely to work than the single trigger version.

Huh?

Are you talking about the 30-30? The first ammo offered by Winchester in 1895 had a 160 grain jacketed bullet and the velocity was 1970 fps.
