I hate to say it, because I do own several USFA Single Actions, but with USFA's current communications, customer service, quality control, and service speed....Colt has nothing to fear.

Please forgive my ignorance Gentlemen,  for I thought Colt "Sold Out" back in the day of the Slick-Willy to USFA, at least in the Single Action Forum.   ??? ??? ???

I'd appreciate an education in this matter.   :-\

There was no "selling out".  Colt reportedly had some quality control issues especially with some early 3rd generation models.   From what I understand Colt is back making fine weapons without any significant problems.   USFA probably still makes fine stock models like the Premium SAA, but their customer service is clearly lacking at this point if some of the comments here are any indication.   If Doug Donnelly would come on here every once and awhile, he would have a better understanding of the concerns his customers has.  But then again he may not care all that much what a few of us have to say.

Well, Jason, I think those screws and other issues are very disappointing. I really expect more from USFA, especially at that price.  And as for customer service, I'm still waiting for my guns.  Originally, I was told it would take a few days.  It's been over 2 months and no word.

I did get an email a few weeks ago telling me the barrels would be replaced, among other things. And I wrote back, twice, to ask if I could pay to have longer barrels installed.  (It would have defrayed the loss to USFA for having to change them out.)  But I didn't even get an email acknowledging my messages.  I'm so frustrated I'm about to tell them to ship the damn guns back and I'll take them to a smith and pay for the fix.  I've missed several shoots because of not having my guns.

Gary Granger used to frequent this forum, but I haven't seen him here in a long time.  Wish he would come back, just to explain what's going on. This isn't the same USFA I've supported and recommended to everyone since I got my 1st one 5 years ago.

Gentlemen,

Suppose this might not be the correct place to talk 'bout Colts 'cept Deadeye Don didn't give a good answer 'bout a sell out so I went on to educate myself.  I'm better now after researching the Colt & USFA web sites and I'mma thinking, these two manufactures are just in a "P-n" match on each other; consequently. the customer gets a hose-n (clearly No grease nor kiss) on price, quality, service as I see it and a hear-n.

Marshal Deadwood,

Are you talking "bout the Colt "Cowboy Single Action" that came out in say late 1998 for sure in 1999?  I don't understand the "ROFLOL"..... ???.....Please explain if you would Sir.

I have always been extremely happy with the quality and service I have received from USFA.  Then again, it has been a year or so since I last had any direct dealings with them.
I would think that if you wanted to get USFA's attention, the best place to post concerns would be their own forum.  It can be found at;

http://forum.usfirearms.com/

Gary used to monitor this board but seems to have stopped since they started up their own forum.

Yeti,

Colt did NOT sell out to USFA. Quite frankly and honestly I don't think USFA could afford to buy out Colt.

Colt is producing some of the finest SAAs they have ever made, and it seems the production of the SAAs are higher than they have been in years.

Yeti,,,yep,,according to Ten Ring PErcisions leader,,,Colt is discontinuing the standard SAA and buiding it with a transferr bar and no firing pin.

THE ROFLOL was,,,'USFA will not be Colts competition,,,the non'period'correct but tough RUGER will be ! I find that ironic as hell,,,but maybe not laughable at all. If you can find you a good Colt before hand,,,one might outta just buy it right away.

If I'm wrong,,the head man at Ten Ring Percision was the one that told me about this new 'to come out' forth generation' abomination. The Iraqi guy that owns Colt evidently is not strong on histiroical tradition.

That said,,some of the worst guns iv seen have been Colts,,one a recent third gen , nickle plated SAA that the action felt like draging a junk dryer behind a pickup truck down a graveled road. I just couldnt believe the action,,,,,,,,,,hedious.

Rawhide Rio,

Know all "bout them Italian pot metal guns, seen on two different occasions and example remnants of many other Blow Ups.  SCARRY  :o  :o  :o

I'mma only a mere "Rookie" in the CAS / SASS world (2.5 yrs) as one of my first observations with this model/style firearm was that the Colts & USFA were identical and the only difference was a "US" or a "Mustang" on the grip.  I was told in a scolding manor that USFA obtained the PAT Designs back in the Slick Willy days.  I was ignorant then and didn't know how to correct this "aggressor" then left it as gospel.

I've just found out that was wrong; regardless, as a "new-bee" I damn straight was not paying that kind of money for ether manufacture because of their "NAME".  Momma didn't raise a fool and I WAS born in the morning but NOT this morning to buy into handguns (to participate in this sport) that are twice the price they should be compared to superior handgun designs of these modern times.

So once again I state that the CUSTOMER is getting hosed and I keep hearing it over and over with some defending of how it "YUSTA-B", then again this seems to be the case of EVERYTHING these days.    >:( >:( >:(

NO OFFENCE TO ANYONE just how I see it.... 8)

Marshal Deadwood,

I thank you for yer input, seems that ya have a bit more insight to Colt's ownership then the website let out to believe.  I'm kinda think-n by yer writing that yer more of a NCOW kinda fella.

Suppose if I had that kinda cash for Colts I'd be putting it toward the period manufactured pieces like I've seen ya post on Pale Rider and such.  I thank you Sir.

NO, Pardon ME, Rawhide Rio.

I suppose I just don't understand cylinder pieces and back strap parts fly-n past my head twenty yards away.  The couple stitches in the cheek of the fellow who fired that gun as this was the most personal event.  The other I was at the out house and was informed 'bout it on my return then did my part of returning the pieces I found to their rightful owner.  The other examples came to me in SASS RO I and RO II training.

At that time I've only been CAS for over a year then the RO classes 8 months or so ago.  The common denominator was ITALIAN...

You didn't make these firearms, just did action jobs.  Please excuse me but I'm about the "walk" I SEE never what I hear....

Sorry 'bout the toe step-n

Even though I'm having problems with service right now, I'll still defend USFA.  They didn't make it on their name, and their prices don't come from a century old tradition and rep, which is all Colt has going for it.  USFA had to overcome a lot of skepticism, especially in the beginning when they were assembling Italian made parts to produce their guns.  Then they switched to all US parts and did their own machining, and started producing the highest quality single action in the game.

The point I'm making is that USFA earned its rep solely on the quality of its product, and not on a name.  And they charge for that quality machining, finishing and hand fitting.  It's been 2 years since I bought my rodeos, so I don't know what they're producing today, but my Premium SA is one of the finest looking, feeling and firing six guns I've ever seen.  The rodeos are well made, too.  They just had a few thousandths more headspace than I liked.

That's why I'm so disappointed by all this--up until now my experience with USFA has been exceptionally good.  It's  shock to suddenly get treated like this.  If it was a company like Cimarron, I'd expect long returns and trouble talking to customer service.

Doc Sunrise

I am optimistic that USFA will respond to the current problems.  I think between new product releases, prevailing economic conditions, and staff with hopefully growing pains, USFA is a little overwhelmed.

I was recently asking my brother-in-law how Kohl's, where he is a district manager, was able to take over so much market share lately.  "Quite simply, we stuck to basics.  We found every area of customer service was an area with improvement possibilities.  The customer is again the key focus."  And it shows.  Kohl's has not only expanded their bottom line with inventory control, but they also expanded their top line with actual growth.

As a paramedic we always had the saying, "If you get overwhelmed and confused, go back to the ABC's and start over with the basics."

Moral of the story, USFA needs to get back to the basics.  It works.

Marshal Deadwood

USFA is installing some serious high dollar equipment and expanding to make their quaitly even better and timely.
Colt is to build a forth generation with transfee bar, etc,,like the Rugers.

That is what Ten Rings 'guy told me. How he comes to know this..I'm not sure. But the 'transfer bar' colts are talked about on their webpage if one wishs to goggle Ten Ring percision and read at the top of 'USFA's...

That pards, is all I know,,and that aint really 'knowing',,just readin' and hearing. So, if I am in error or spoken of information that is not concrete, then by all means I appologize.

I am postiive of the bad action on the Colt I mentioned,,,I handled that paticualr gun first hand. Customer was pale he was so sickened.

OF the Italian guns, I have half dozen Ubertis,,,and they 'seem' strong as any, and are more accurate than most. I've put'em thur the paces for a few years and they are holding up flawlessly. I COULD blow them up,,with reloading extremes,,but this is black powder techolology and should be traeted as such.  My professional gunsmith friend says Ubertis are every bit as good of metal as AMcerican guns,,,except for the 'softer screws perhaps',,and brownells can remedy that with a kit of hardened screws for most any Colt replica.

Other Italian revolvers I really cant comment on.

I DO know the American Ruger is extremely durable but not as historicaly correct,,but I like'em anyways.

I use a Uberti SAA in fastdraw and that is rough on any revolver...for sure. But its holding up ,,,again,,flawlessly. It has had replacment screws and springs though.

I had a 'real' Smith and Wesson Scohfield,,year 2000 production,, and it was ,,OK. Stupidely I traded it.

Marshal Deadwood I've a few more questions if you please:

First I appreciate ya pointing out them trails to scout out for some ignorance eradication.   :) ;)

1) I mentioned before and could you confirm, Yer more of a NCOW fella?  Ya seem a stickler for "Period Correctness".
2) Ya shoot mostly the "holy black" in this game?
3) Shoot-n fast draw with that Uberti SAA I'm thinking that a cartridge pistol so what is the caliber and are you shooting BP in it?

I thank you Sir.   ;D

Well , Mr Yeti,,there isnt an NCOWS posse close to me...and I wish there were..cause yea,,im kinda slanted to the historic 'correct' side,,but at the same time,,,I am for fun too....and the SASS boys are OK,,,lots of fun shooting and friends,,but not as 'historic' slanted as I perosnally likle to be a times.

I shoot only blackpowder,,,thats all...in cap and ball and cartridge also. Once you get that stuff on ya..it's like being bitten by a vampire,,,you are infected for eternity ! :)

The fast draw is a Uberti Cattleman, 4 3/4" barrel SAA. In fast draw,,,for saftys sake,,and I agree for once with SASS,,we use wax bullets that are primer propelled. Normally,, wax bullets would give me the hives,,and I wouldnt bother shooting reg matches at all if thats all we could use,,but fast draw,,,I'd bet the ranch,,it wouldnt be an entire match with live ammo till someone (prob me!) would blow the end off their boot,,,or worse. So,,,in this ONE event,,I agree totally with wax bullets. Take about a dirty gun,,,good God almighty, wax is worse than holy black,,wayyy worse ! But, cleans out easily enough....and fast draw is a lot of fun. I sure aint no gamer but I love the heck outta tryin' in fast draw...it's a hoot !

So many guns, so little wampum,eh ?  "_ But,,we are the blessed ones to love guns like we do ! Blessed indeed.

Take care pard,

Marshal Deadwood,

I thank you for your candor.  Just got back from the USFA retail Ten Ring site and maybe ya might know what is meant as "OUT of the Game" or I should probably ask the horse on hide sight.    ???

He is saying that the USFA Customer Service is tops and pieces are way-way superior to Colt.

This fella has some USFA pieces designated as PREWAR, ya might know what is meant here?  Or Anyone?    ???

I know you holy black folks are pretty fanatical 'bout that smelly 'ol smoke, I personally like to watch it up wind and I like the reverb in my chest!  I really do HATE timing you folks, my Gramps died of black lung and I don't think I wanna go there!   :D

Now as far as blow-en up Italian pistols I don't think it can be done in BP even with fine grind pan powder, but I could be wrong.

Time for PIE   :) :) :)
