This is a very Rare 1876 Winchester 22" Short Rifle in 50-Express Caliber with a rare Round 22" barrel and a FULL MAGAZINE! Set Trigger, Shotgun Butt, Proper Steel Butplate, Best of all – NO BRITISH PROOF MARKS, Rocky Mountain front sight and a Graduated Leaf rear. Pre-1898 antique serial number is in the 42,000 rang dating it manufactured in the year 1885, Cody Museum Letter will come with rifle confirming all 100% correct! Condition: Rifle is in excellent condition with 70% coverage of thinning blue that has turned a pleasing brown patina with slight edge ware and very good blue in the protected areas, Action is excellent, bore is very good+, all screws are excellent, wood is very good+ with a few minor dings and dents, short forarm for 22" barrel, wood to metal fit is excellent, all markings: caliber on barrel, caliber on brass lifter, upper tang, barrel address, sight and the (Winchester .50 Cal. 95 GRS) marked on the dustcover are excellent. Of the approximately 64,000 model 1876s produced, only 3284 Express Rifles were made; of those 1196 were made with a 22" round barrel only320 with a set trigger, and with very few shot rifles in a full magazine configuration. Many of the Express Rifles were British-Proofed and / or sent to Africa to hunt dangerous game. However, with the lack of proofs, this Winchester was obviously used on the American western frontier- -a scarce and extremely desirable Winchester.
