Howdy All,

I thought everything was easier with the internet :-\

I'm looking for a plain functional bowie, around a 7" blade, carbon steel.  And I'd like to stay around $100.  Just a quality blade.  I'll make the sheath.  It sounds so easy.

Thanks everyone,
Whiskey James

There are tons of them out there. Here is one site that has them in your price range,http://www.atlantacutlery.com/c-131-bowie-knives.aspx .I can't vouch for quality on most these cheaper knives,as many are made overseas and I make customs.Dave  :)

Do a search for the Ontario-produced Bowies designed by Bowie-Master Bill Bagwell.  I have the "Gambler", and it is VERY impressive!!

Okay,

If you just want something to put on your belt, Texas Jacks has this big Bowie for about $20.00

It comes with a nylon sheath, but if you are planning to make your own sheath that should not be a problem ....

I switched out the handle for deer antler, and wear it with a handmade sheath ....

I just looked at the Texas Jacks website; they have four or five Bowies in the $20.00 range .....

Both Dixie Gun Works and Atlanta Cutlery Corporation have them - as does Smoky Mountain Knife Works.

I'm pretty certain that Atlanta Cutlery supplies the other two, along with many other vendors - so try www.AtlantaCutlery.com  and eliminate the middleman.

I have a Linder 8" that cost about $90.00.  They have dozens of knives, good quality stuff, for under two hundred and probably half for under a hundred.

Howdy!
Something like this?

http://www.heinnie.com/mam27c790050/Knives/John-Nowill/John-Nowill-Bowie-Stag-6/p-92-153-4606/

That's about $85 US dollars.

Here's two more of similar style; a little more expensive:

http://www.mshelhart.com/products.accessories.html

(scroll down on Shelhart's web site; it's a Boker made blade)

I find this length, about 6 inches, very handy to use and carry, (and the design is very period correct for the the 1870s-1880s, if that matters to you.)

If you can handle a little longer, check out the 9 inch Bear and Son blades (USA made):

http://www.smkw.com/webapp/eCommerce/prodlist.jsp?Mode=Brand&Brand=8&CatalogName=&PriceStart=&PriceEnd=&Feature=&Cat=&filter=&SearchText=&list=50&range=1&order=Default

I also like Bark River knives (also made in USA), but they can be a bit more modern in appearance.

I got my 8" Linder from Mike Shellhart.  It's the one in his ad, but I didn't pay that for it back when I bought it.

It says it's carbon steel, but the blade is marked "440 STEEL SOLINGEN GERMANY INOX ROSTFREI".  It's stainless.

Excellent knife, with beautiful stag scales.

I can only wish to have one of Ned's Bowies.. He made me a leg sheath for a cheap Bowie of mine, and I was stunned at the quality of the work ......

In fact, I believe that many of the poeopl on this board are heading for much bigger and better times.

I think that , by buying a blade now when these people are not too expensive, not only would it be a gread investment when the prices increase, but it would be a neat way of saying, 'hey, I knew him when'....

Howdy Pards,

Thought I'd introduce yall to the "Whiskey James Bowie"
Ole Whiskey contacted me to discuss the typ of bowie he'd like and here's what we came up with-
6 1/2" cutting edge 1095 carbon steel spear point
11 3/4 OAL
Curly maple hande scales with copper washer and steel pin rivets
false clip (not yet ground in)

These pics are of the blade after heat treating and tempering.

This'n was a challenging grind on the point but it came out well.  I think after finishing and grinding the clip it's gonna be a real dandy affordable bowie   ;D

Thanks fer lookin,  Josh
