Congrats on the Deer . Have you made any Jerky yet ?

No jerky. Venison is a staple at our supper table so jerky would be a luxury. Maybe next year I'll shoot three and jerk some of the meat.

I have a picture of my favorite Hunting shirt and my Pietta in 44wcf and a Stek knife . The Shirt was made by Bear Tooth Billy and I love wearing it while Hunting .

Plan on working up a black powder load for my 73 in 44wcf . I guess my New Years resolution is to mimic the 44wcf load of the 1870's . Also if we have a smokeless load , a black powder sub load and last but not least a Black Powder load then if you want to Vintage Hunt we have a load for YOU . So grab your Rifle and go Hunting . And when season is over and your  watching Lonesome Dove and eating Deer Jerky you will be glad you went Hunting . Life is GOOD .

Who's ready for Turkey season . I can't wait to smoke me an Ol Tom turkey .  I still have the short barreled 87 and haven't tubed it yet . If that don't work out I can fall back on my ttn . It has taken a few Turkeys over the years .

I got a new hunting knife . It was made my Stek and I'm real happy with it .

Cholla Hill Tirador

  Nice knife!!

I'm thinking next year I  may have to try my 1866 Sporting Rifle on deer. It never ceases to amaze me how accurate this rifle is! Today I loaded up a couple dozen rounds consisting of 2.2cc of Swiss 3Fg under an RNFP from an NOE 44-200 mould. I thought it'd be fun to try them at 200 yds. from a prone position using my improvised, temporary sling. Due to a slightly variable wind quartering towards me from the left and gusting to around 20 mph, I had to hold into the wind a little. Still, all but three of the rounds hit in the 12" center!
  I'm hooked...

the 44wcf is still a good Deer cartridge . It's like all things it has it's limits . And in it's limits it works . Here is my proof .

The sights on my  Marlin 44/40 are only good for just over 150 yards. But good out to there. Tj

Rowdy, I've got just the thing for you, I made a ammo box out of scraped buffalo rawhide,
laced together with sinew, with handle and ties made of brain tanned buckskin. It will be
on the silent auction at our banquet at the convention.

Also wanted to thank you for the care package you sent me . Thanks again .

Rowdy,
Attached is a picture of Bear Tooth Billy's Rawhide Ammo Box.
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

Turkey season is almost here . Hope everyone a safe and productive season . I am really excited about the 87 shotgun . Today I patterned my shotgun at 25 and 30 yards . No problem out to 30 yards . Wanting to try a few 40 yard shots .

Rowdy...you do realize that in order to be 100% "period correct" you're going to need to use a turkey call made from the wingbone of a jake, don't you?  ;D
