Nice deer, Rowdy!

Gonna try it this year, took out my old 1894 in 38-55 today, shot a few rounds just to be sure it's shooting where I look, it was. Haven't ever worked up any loads for it, just have some cast bullet cowboy loads and a part box of Winchester factory stuff. Seven left in that box now, If I can't get one with 7 , then any more won't likely help.

I haven't hunted for years with open sights, but last spring I went for new glasses, and WOW, can see sights again! Optometrist told me my old prescription was actually too strong, now with the new glasses I can see the sights again, So I'm giving it a try, al least part of the season.

Well, so far no luck with the '94 38-55. No problem with the rifle, just didn't see a single deer(from the stand). Saw one each going out and coming in from the stand this morning, but they both saw me first :-[

Didn't sit this afternoon, was snowing pretty heavy, just walked the woods. Saw several, but as before, they saw me first. Amazing how quietly they can run in the snow, compared to all the noise they make in the leaves when they take off. Tracked one in the snow a while, he circled back and was tracking me! then he figured out I knew, he went to the thick cedars. Still was a great day hunting, the new snow in the cedars is just beautiful!

Good luck on your Hunting . The 38-55 is a good old cartridge , it will take em down .

Once again I saw only squirrels, and I think the 38-55 is a bit much for them.

I did get one deer with the 38-55 about 8-9 years ago. Went down just like the ones I've shot with a .308.

I still have a Doe tag that I plan on filling this weekend . I will be armed with my 73 in 44wcf and my USFA in 44wcf . Hope Saturday is dry I'm not a fan of hunting in the rain . BUT if it rains I will break out my slicker .

No luck so far with the '94, no fault of the rifle, just never saw anything while I was carrying it. Did get one with the modern one, though. Back to the 38-55 tomorrow, but I'm does only now.

Edit: Oh, the irony! I checked my deer online, and they gave me the confirmation number.....some assorted letters, followed by.......38-55! I guess the conservation department is trying to guilt me about leaving the old Winchester home this afternoon!

Thatis ironic. I guess you know what you need to do next time!

Tried with the '94 again this morning, but again only saw squirrels. Maybe I could make some round ball loads for it.....

Yuma Kid

Maybe you should be huntin squirrels, then ya might see some deer.   ;D

I have had an Excellent Deer season . Hope everyone had a safe and productive Hunting season . This Saturday I plan on breaking out my old smoke pole . 90 grains of powder and a patched round ball work wonders on Whitetail Deer .

It's all over here in Missouri, except for the bow shooters. Got one in the freezer, but unfortunately not with the 1894. Looking forward to next year!

I plan on going Quail hunting tomorrow . I will try my 87 it has a short barrel so it should work as a bird gun . I seen a nice covey of birds during Deer season . I hope we can kill a few to have for Sunday lunch ,they are fine eating .

And yes I put a plug in it so the game warden will be happy .

Rowdy, nice looking mount.  I like the European mounts.  Had a moose done that way, it is sharp looking.  Got to learn to post pictures.
