Hey Rowdy ,this old bear got real close to my game camera, about 30 min. after I set it out. Guess he wondered what it was. The black bear are protected here ,cant shoot them anymore. They are making a big comeback. I called the black bear varmints, a TP&W biologist said they aint . But he aint the one fixing the water trough's , They tare -up everything they touch, like a 250 lb. coon. I am.Guess it's how you look at it ........Dusty.

Here in Kentucky I'll can get my coldest with the temps in the upper thirty's or low forty's. Generally the air is damp and high humidity especially in the Ohio valley.

When I was a kid I froze because my folks dressed us in cotton and bow hunted a lot because I hated sitting still in the cold during late November deer season. Once I discovered wool I started hunting again in the colder weather and actually like winter now.

I dress in several layers and I try not to wear anything with cotton whatsoever. I pretty much dress the same for 45 degrees or 5 degrees. Once it starts getting down below freezing the air feels drier.

You bet that damp air hurts ,Cold and dry aint that bad if the wind is not howling. That buckskin helps in the wind. Here is a Lion taken on the Muleshoe ranch this winter. Need to get back out there and do some more . Thats one thing the biologist and I agree on ,Varmint control is one of the best things you can do for your deer herd. Actually we agree on more than one thing......Dusty.

My Brother, hauling a lion out of some rough country on the Muleshoe ranch,he killed it in the hills in the background,he is strong as an OX. Thats Old Mexico on the horizon . 3.5 mi. from the Muleshoe South fenceline. Border Country still wild as ever you gotta love it .......Dusty .(gotta give this a break this speed typing is killing me).......Dusty.

Thanks for posting the pictures . I've got to get down there and get me a mt. lion . I found out along time ago that wool is the way to go . I like the military wool socks to wear ,uncle sam got me hooked on them . I wear a lot of wool because it works . Now my boots are old Buffalo Runners . I have used snowseal to try to water proof them . But I have been spoiled using Gortex hunting boots . As far as knives go I prefer a fixed bladed knife , but have used the pocket knife to do the job at hand . Now I have a couple Damascus Bowie that I occasionally carry . Also can you carry a handgun in the field while Hunting ? I like to carry my SAA in 44wcf when I'm using my 73 .

Have been working on my boots . Have applied a heavy coat of mink oil . I heated it to a liquid and applied with a rag , tried to rub it in . I plan on letting them sit for a few days and then applying another coat . I  have a drovers coat in my  Jeep in case the weather is rainy .Today is a rainy day and our forecast is rain this week . I need to load a few 45-60 rounds this week . With it being a rainy week I will clean a few rifles .

Hi

If you really want the oil to soak in, put it on in August and leave the boots in the trunk of the car for the afternoon.  That's how I do my WW2 rough out boots and my brogans.

Today we awoke to about 4 inches of Snow , weather idiot called for flurries . I made my rounds and never seen  anything except a squirrel . It was a windy day but I didn't see nothing moving , may try again tomorrow .

Hey Rowdy ,any luck with the coyote huntin. How about that snow did it melt off yet. Try swapin call's a bit. This time of yr. I like bird in destress call's . Along with the rabbit in destress , in a couple a month I will pull out the pup in destress. That bring's um right up to my barrel. Dont take them long to wise up, faster than most. My old Daddy used to tell me way back yonder. Every time you hunt them song dog's you teach them another lesson. And he was spot on.  ....Dusty.

Hey Rowdy you still kiking ?. Or did you start the long hunt early? .....Dusty.

The only hunting I've been doing is for a job . In my free time I have put a set of one piece grips on my usfa pistol . They look great and feel even better . The grips I fitted was won at the Convention . They were donated by Grip Maker , thanks grip maker .

dusty texian

Hey Rowdy ,wish you luck with the job huntin. I'll bet them one piece grip's look good. I have one piece on my cap-n-ball revolver's ,but my Colt's .45 has the hard rubber grip's . Think a one piece Mesquite burl would look good . May start wittling. That's what I need another project. .......Good Luck.........Dusty.

If your bored and want to whittle out a set of grips ,why not it's winter They will be just fine . I have been trying to figure out what caliber of pistol I want to pack Hunting . I have been a 45 colt fan for years . I also enjoy the 44wcf , now common sense would dictate that what ever the rifle caliber was then that would be the pistol caliber . But I love my 44wcf in my 73 rifle , but the 45 colt is my favorite  pistol . That is the caliber of my NCOWS pistol that USFA built . I hope to start in Texas and hunt to Montana some day . Now if we can only get someone to finance this adventure ???
