Trinity

Trinity comes back from the recycling plant in one piece, but with a new car.  "They tolt me down yonder that they already give you the money an' since Ah were such a good customer, they give me this Eye-talian impote.  Boy is Ah one lucky person!"
"Finest partner I ever had.  Cleans his paws and buries his leavin's.  Lot more than some folks I know."

Ozark gives Trinity the money and he has his car fixed up, with a big tank in the trunk for transporting his brew,

him and Robert Mitchum take it on it's maiden run to Atlanta for Christmas.

Arcey rides along to study the history of NASCAR

Robert Mitchum singing all the way

Let me tell the story, I can tell it all
About the mountain boy who ran illegal alcohol
His daddy made the whiskey, son, he drove the load
When his engine roared, they called the highway Thunder Road.

Sometimes into Ashville, sometimes Memphis town
The revenoors chased him but they couldn't run him down
Each time they thought they had him, his engine would explode
He'd go by like they were standin' still on Thunder Road.

(CHORUS)
And there was thunder, thunder over Thunder Road
Thunder was his engine, and white lightning was his load
There was moonshine, moonshine to quench the Devil's thirst
The law they swore they'd get him, but the Devil got him first.

On the first of April, nineteen fifty-four
A Federal man sent word he'd better make his run no more
He said two hundred agents were coverin' the state
Whichever road he tried to take, they'd get him sure as fate.

Son, his Daddy told him, make this run your last
The tank is filled with hundred-proof, you're all tuned up and gassed
Now, don't take any chances, if you can't get through
I'd rather have you back again than all that mountain dew.

(CHORUS)

Roarin' out of Harlan, revvin' up his mill
He shot the gap at Cumberland, and screamed by Maynordsville
With T-men on his taillights, roadblocks up ahead
The mountain boy took roads that even Angels feared to tred.

Blazing right through Knoxville, out on Kingston Pike,
Then right outside of Bearden, they made the fatal strike.
He left the road at 90; that's all there is to say.
The devil got the moonshine and the mountain boy that day.

Trinity nearly looses control when the "Bag Pipes" begin to play

Well my name's Trinity Chicory Kid
Same as my daddy and his daddy before
You hardly ever saw Grandaddy down here
He only came to town about twice a year
He'd buy a hundred pounds of yeast and some copper line
Everybody knew that he made moonshine
Now the revenue man wanted Grandaddy bad
He headed up the holler with everything he had
It's before my time but I've been told
He never came back from Copperhead Road
Now Daddy ran the whiskey in a big block Dodge
Bought it at an auction at the Mason's Lodge
Johnson County Sheriff painted on the side
Just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside
Well him and my uncle tore that engine down
I still remember that rumblin' sound
Well the sheriff came around in the middle of the night
Heard mama cryin', knew something wasn't right
He was headed down to Knoxville with the weekly load
You could smell the whiskey burnin' down Copperhead Road

I volunteered for the Army on my birthday
They draft the white trash first,'round here anyway
I done two tours of duty in Vietnam
And I came home with a brand new plan
I take the seed from Colombia and Mexico
I plant it up the holler down Copperhead Road
Well the D.E.A.'s got a chopper in the air
I wake up screaming like I'm back over there
I learned a thing or two from ol' Charlie don't you know
You better stay away from Copperhead Road

Neighbor down to Cook tells us his grandpa made shine back in the 30's, got wind the law was a comin' and he went out and buried his still.  Bo's son was chisel plowin' this fall over one one of the family farms and turned up what was left of the still. ;D

back in the 50's when I was little, I would go blackberry picking with my mom and grandma, there was one little  hill that had blackberry vines, there were also 55 gallon wooden barrels buried up there where they used to hide their shine, everybody in our family  knew about the barrels so we stayed away from that spot. we got the berries they kept their shine a secret.
