Seen an intersting ad on TV for some place thats sells vacations on the internet.  It says "see Alsaka before the Oil Companies ruin it."  Well won't it use less fuel if they stay home. ;)  Kayak don't seem to think so. ::)

You know...  Some folks are only interested in their own little ideas and cannot imagine that there is a larger world beyond that.

For example, Why is everyone talking about illegal immigration ... NOW?  Why is everyone worried about fuel consumption... NOW?  These are the hot topics of today.  They have been hot topics before just as in a few years they will be on the back burners again.

I especially like how Jeep is on TV saying that they are the first American car company to come up with all these great fuel consuption alternatives...  Why only now, I ask.  Why did we allow foreign companies to beat us to the bat yet again?!?  Heck, if Jeep weren't owned by Daimler they wouldn't have been able to lay such claims. ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

It ain't the oil companies that scare me it's tourism developers and real estate agents that scare me. Look at the North West what they have done there.

Yer right about the real estate agents,  eventually nobody's gonna be able to afford anything.  If we're not there right now.

Just think Ozark someday a Real Estate DEEveloper will look at yopur property and figger out how it can be divided into about a zillion little lots and they'll stick a zillion little houses on it that even yer turkeys would be cramped to live in and they'll put a fancy name on it and have people lined up to live there.  ;D

Tom, that's the truth,  up around Fayetteville, Ark.  that's the way it is now,  farms being bought for ridiculas prices then turn around and divide it up and building new houses by the thousands. Then new people move in and think everything is cheap cheap.

the price of progress :o

land around our area is still priced between 750 and 1000 per acre,  even the houses are good if ya look some,  we bought a house about 4 years ago for our daughter 1600 sq ft. big lot in town $20,000,   and if you look hard enough you can still find really nice houses with acreage for $100,000 or less.

It's just with all the people moving in here, the prices are starting to get up and stay up. everybody wants to make a profit and I can't blame them for it.

I know one man here who has a couple of thousand acres in parcels scattered around 3 counties,  he bought most of it in the 70's and 80's for less than $100 per acre. he's getting ready to retire and start selling.

Took out the dairy farms south of here that had been there for a hundred years, built some real upscale crackerboxes on the land, and now the folks living there are complaining that the houses are settling, the area smells like cows, and the flies a terrible in the hot weather.

No one could have predicted that, right?

Right.

Charcoal burnin' everywhere.

Rows of houses that are all the same.

And no one seems to care.

Little houses, little houses, little houses made of ticky-tacky and they all look just the same.
