OK. So it looks like we've determined that:

a). Boot tucking is a function of the needs of the moment - for example protection for your legs.
b). Thorns are not our friends.
c). Pancho and JohnR wear their spurs in their waterbeds.

That's what I love about this forum - there's always something new and exciting to learn!

Quote from: Delmonico on November 19, 2009, 05:38:33 PMMyself when dressed casual, it's pants in, altough at the Dept. of the Missouri Muster next summer if I go wandering across Pitspiter's pasture out by Sargent, the pants will be out for two of the reasons above.

There hasn't been a rattler seen on my place since my father-in-law was about 7 (ca. 1925) we do have cacti though.

How I wear mine depends on the boots. If the pants take too much time to get on the outside of the boots I tuck them in otherwise I wear the pants outside.

I told my kids they could go to college anywhere they wanted to go, but if they became tea sips they could never come home again.

I'm taking a little different approach with my kids:  If they go to A&M, I pay.  They go any where else, it will be on their dime.  If they wind up as tea sips, I'm making them change their last name.

And I was hoping to catch a few and have some prairie shrimp. :(

Hmmmm, I guess this means Tascosa Joe wears his spurs in his waterbed, too.

Not all AGGies are from TAMU.  There is a few of us Okie Aggies around. I'm hoping that OSU(Cowboys) do well in their Bowl game and the My local team, The TCU Frogs.

I posted this link over in the "Hats" thread, but there are lots of photo's showing boots worn outside the trousers in this collection too.  It's the Erwin Smith Collection of photo's in the Amon Carter Museum, with most of the photo's taken after the turn of the century, between 1907-1909.  But they show virtually everyone not wearing chaps wearing their boots on the outsides of their trousers.  Now, it's also a given that they were in the saddle and working cattle, so when in town it's entirely possible that they tucked their boots under their pants legs at that time.  I doubt it, because it was by then fashionable to look like a Cowboy, as  the Dime Novels had done their magic and brought the Knight of the Plains into some positive repute.  ;)

Here's the link: http://www.cartermuseum.org/collections/smith/collection.php?mcat=1

Lots of great stuff in there, from clothing, saddles and horses to cattle and chuck wagons.  Again, a tad bit out of date, but still showing most of the fashions of 20-30 years before.  Just something to keep in mind.  But heck, if folks showed up to a shoot looking straight out of one of these photo's, they'd be praised for the high authenticity of their rigs, and rightly so.

Cheers!

What's a water bed.  If you lay in water you drown.

I have never worn my spurs to bed, but I have worn them out dancing.
