If I have to explain it...

Nope, you is one of the language police, you done told us that.  Got one on another board, caught him with a gross misuse of the language the other day.

Delmonico walks away to check the goose he has roatin' in the oven, wonderin' what Whoopin' Crane would taste like. ;D

It was just a little humor and, judging from the thunderous lack of response, it was VERY little. ;)

I don't know about Whoopers.  They look so bony to me that I'm guessing you could possibly pick your teeth with one...

And that's where the trouble started, they don't want us to know, but the trouble started when my folks came to the east coast in the early 17th century, see you native folks could not understand English dry humor. ;D

Well I ain't never ate one, but they say the smaller Sandhill Cranes are dang good eatin'.  So the bigger Whooper should be also, besides they have big enough wings to bother with. ;D

Waiting for Silver Creek Slim to chime in on the Crane taste issue.  He isn't far from the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge.  It's one end of a migratory router from Wisconsin to Florida.  They might look poorly on Slim cooking one of their birds for a taste test though!

Newbrassky is the only state on the flyway that don't have a season on the Sandhills.  FWS won't let us because were in the narrow part of that hourglass shaped flyway.  Right now I could go out 'tween North Platte and Grand Island and could most likely kill a dozen or more at a time in some of those fields with my 10 bore. ;D

We could all meet here and have a crane roast. ;D

Nope. 'Twas the other way around entirely. Y'all didn't understand that we understood, and therefore you underestimated us.

Ya see, the Manhattan Purchase was actually a lease that expires on May 24th, 2010.  At that time the entire property, and all improvements thereunto, will revert to its original custodians, which is us.  The Notice to Vacate will be delivered to the White House on Thanksgiving Day, and the eviction papers are all drawn up, just in case... ;D

Dan, you better check history, the original puchace for a few strings of beads was a trick by some folks who didn't live there, the poor Dutch had to pay far more for it at a later time, most folks don't know that.  Besides, if you folks want the dang place I don't give a hoot, the problems they will have won't bother me if yer dumb enough to take it back. ;D ::)

I hope your folks make better use of it than we did.  We screwed it up sumthin AWFUL!  Same thing with that useless swamp down there by Virginia.

The only cranes I've had any experience with would be oily and have a metallic taste, and stripping the paint and rust off would take forever.

From what I've seen just about anyone from Canada that makes it big in entertainment ends up here.  I think they farm comedians up there right next to the bad muscians ranch.
