Lost the original during recoil and couldn't even locate it with a metal detector so ordered another from Cimarron.  Looking at the keyway in the barrel, I see not signs of solder.  Are these just press fit?  Am tempted to press in with a little soft solder or maybe Accruglass.

What say you?

Sam     Replaced one a while back, cleaned the keyway out well ,mixed up some JB Weld. That was a couple of years back and it is still there and holding.       Adios  Sgt. Jake

Been there and done that on my 1860 Colts (one is still awaiting the new sight ).

If you look closely you'll see the sight was peened on each lenghtwise edge. I' have a small tool (somewhere) that I made to peen that edge. Just a thinned piece of steel bar. I use it like a punch. Doesn't even damage the blueing.

Be sure to hold the barrel snuggly in a vice, barrel blocks are preferred.

Slim
