William M. ('Bill') Doolin lies dead on a mortuary slab riddled with bullets, many of the wounds were from a shotgun blast. He was the leader of a gang of outlaws known as the 'Oklahombres'. He was killed by a posse in Lawson, Oklahoma, in 1896.

I read awhile back that a modern pathologist thought that the wounds were post mordum (spl?) (after he was dead) because of the lack of bruising.  It was thought that Doolin had already succumbed to an illness and his corpse was shot to give credence to the posse's story.

I am not a pathologist, dont play one on TV,didn't even sleep in a holiday inn last night, but I haveworked a few homocides in my time.
What I see is evidence of post mortem lividity on the sides of the chest and back and a group of puncture wounds over the area of the chest  that appear to be consistanr with a wound inflicted by a heavy guage shotgun. it looks as though the wounds are in an area that would have struck the heart  and pretty well stopped his clock. Or as we used to say "left him DRT" or dead right there!
In that case ,because the heart stopped, there would not be heavy bruising around the wounds.
\ I think Hect Thomas or Bill Tighlman or whoever did just as they Reported"used that amount of force as necessary to effect the attest.

One story that can't be confirmed is Bill had died of TB but was shot anyway to collect the reward, which was not allowed if he had already died of natural causes.  Story is he gave the reward money to the widow because she had children and the only way of support was dead.

Don't know if it's true, but a story told about it.

Stev, This is the best quality images of Doolin I've seen..

Would you happen to have a good one of Tulsa Jack Blake?

A friend & co-worker of mine is Tulsa Jack's great-niece.
