SOOO, I just shoot two-handed at all distances. It seems to work for me.  ;D

Especially at distances of 211 yards...........

Now we all know that shot was a freak of nature. He was actually aiming for Grand Island. ::) ;D

I was a counter for Capt Little's historical 211 yard pistol shot. After the fourth shot I said "It's a Yankee Sailor." and I'll be danged if he didn't drill that mother!

Duelist for me.  Shot with two hands when I was in the Army with my 1911, but the target shooter in me brings me back to the single hand hold.  Turned @ 90 degrees with hand on hip if I am thinking about it!  Lots of style points! ;D ::) ;D  Breathe, sight, squeeeeeeeeze!!  Shoot NCOWS so the 10 second penalty doesn't bother me.   ;D

Charles,  Had you mentioned the names of Grant, Sherman or Burnside earlier I would have had more hits. If you had mentioned the name of Bragg or Hood, I would have popped them all (they were the two most worthless idiots to ever don the Gray). Practice helps but incentive gives one that extra ounce of oomph that brings her home. Knowing the exact range would have been of inestimable help but that is half the fun. Be sides everyone else was in the same boat.

And the whole point! 8) I didn't even know how far it was. I was guessing it was about 150. I was surprised when someone said that Grant had measured it at 211 yds.

I think most folks who whine about target placement, target size, or distance to the targets have forgotten that.

One-handed - that's how I learned - shootin' grasshoppers with a Ruger single-six.  Called it "hopper poppin'"

Later, in the Corps, we shot qual with 1911's.  Our qualification was basically a modified NM "bullseye" course of fire - shot the same way.  Qualified "Expert every time.  Later, when we went to M9's they wanted us to do it with both hands, Weaver stance, all that - I barely qualified as Sharpshooter.  I was able to talk my way into shooting the course "my way", and moved back up to Expert again.

The only time I see people complain about the targets is when they miss.

When I use my Colt SAA .45 LC. or my Sig Sauer Western Marshal .38 I do it mostly 2 handed. I'm not a duelist.

For this sport, always one-handed.  From all accounts I've seen this was the way it was done in the 19th century, so that is what I do as well.

In CAS, I usually try to shoot one pistol with the strong hand and one with the weaker hand (double duelist) but sometimes resort to just the strong hand.

When I went into the Corps I was taught to use one hand with 1911.  Didn't pick up shooting with two hands until many years later.  However, while I tend to shoot my "modern" pistols today with two hands, I still train with one hand, both strong and weak, in the event that I don't have two hands when I need to get off a few rounds.

We always shoot weak hand and strong hand as part of our annual quals at the Sheriff's Dept. range. We also shoot two handed and with barricades. I still like two handed better, old habits are hard to break!

A couple of years ago I was at the range shooting some of my SA revolvers - "duelist" style.

A shooter nearby asked if he could try one and offered to let me shoot his Sig in return.  After I shot it he asked if I always shot with one hand.  Without noticing, I had shot the Sig "duelist" style, though usually I shoot semi-autos with two hands.  I'd been shooting "duelist" so much of late that I had just naturally done the same when offered the Sig.

Yesterday I shot my Colt DA and gripped my right wrist with my left hand for support.
