How do you grip your handgun?

One handed ("Duelist")
2 Handed

Pitspitr

Just for the sake of discussion (not argument) How do you grip your handgun and why. Please keep in mind that the other guy isn't neccessarily wrong just because he does it differently than you.

My vote was one handed.

If we are playing a hisorically based game, I like to shoot the way people were taught "back then".

I don't know how long I'll be able to continue shooting one handed as I have tendonitis in my right arm that makes it painful to lift my coffee cup some days and I'm starting to develope a "palsey" (shake) in my hands, but as long as I'm able I'll shoot my handguns one handed.

Normally duelist, unless the targets are jumping around in the arctic cold.

Single handed.
The manuals and John Wayne show it that way. 'nuff said.  :P

Colonel Buckshot

I shot two handed because I do have a hand tremor it gives me better stablity

Most times two handed, left. Being right handed and blind in right eye, get a better sight picture this way. Not that it has improved my shooting. ::) Have shot some duelist, but need to practice more.

Normally I shoot duelist in SASS, actually double duelist, with 1860 armies. But at the muster, I was discovering that I have a hard time managing that Bisley one handed, so I used both. That's odd, too, considering that the Bisley was supposed to be a one handed target revolver! Of course, 10 seconds for a miss vs 5 seconds in sass might have helped me decide to go with two. ;D

Dalton Masterson

One handed, cuz its got only one handle. If I am using 2 hands, its cuz I am shooting 2 guns at once!

Also, it seems to be the "correct historical way", if such thing really exists. Hard to go back in time and prove that argument tho.

I dont have a problem with supporting your gun with the off hand, but I dont like the SASS 2 hand cocking with the offhand type thing.

I agree with pony express, in SASS I shoot duelist but GAF 10 sec penalty most often gets my other hand in the action.

Sagebrush Burns

While I usually shoot two handed (and voted that way), I sometimes shoot duelist style and use each hand when I do.

Niederlander

I almost always shoot one handed for either CAS or GAF shooting.  I'm trying to get a Colt New Service, though, so it's going to be something of a challenge to shoot that beast double action one handed.  Guess I'll just have to get out there and practice a lot.  I just picked up up an eight pound keg of Red Dot, so that should get me started!
"There go those Nebraskans, and all hell couldn't stop them!"

Depends on if I'm shooting a single action or a double action.

I don't shoot single action revolvers much, but when I do, I shoot them one handed.

Single action service revolvers balance nicely and have a trigger that is easy to manipulate, so I shoot them one handed. Dalton Masterson is the most phenomenal one handed single action speed shooter I have ever seen in person and I would have to go two handed with a single action to even begin to keep up with him.

Double action guns have long hard trigger pulls, so in order to shoot them quickly and accurately, I use a two hand  grip. I only shoot them DA one handed for a quick shot at a close target and without use of the sights. When I come out of the holster with a DA gun to fire using the sights or with my arms extended, it is pure muscle memory for my non firing hand to grasp the firing hand while extending the weapon to the target and there is not much I can do about it.

I practiced one hand single action firing with my double action Colts New Army prior to the Grand Muster because I had no idea what the match coordinators were going to throw at us.

A stage requiring one handed firing would have been a lot of fun though.

Dalton Masterson

::) ::) ;) Thanks for the flowers Isaac. The check is in the mail. Awaiting some heavier leather, and your holster will be in the mail as well.

If I am going to go for accuracy, I will support with my offhand. I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. It makes sense to make the best shot you can.

The little bit of DA shooting (Enfield no2) I have done, requires a 2 hand hold to be at all accurate.

One-handed.

For the most part, I shoot double-action revolvers in single-action mode, anyway  ....

Normally Duelist style. But I do shoot my 1911 combat style with my left hand for support.

Gonna vote for two handed 'cause that's the way I was taught by a crusty old MSG with a nasty attitude. He used to say that John Wayne would have never really made it in combat with a sidearm cause he spent too much time with cowboy guns and we ain't fought anybody in 100 yrs who beat us with single actions. "Sides, the name of the game is survival and I ain't gonna crawl out anywhere and drag your sorry asses back 'cause of your stupidity. Shoot to kill, not to impress."  SOOO, I just shoot two-handed at all distances. It seems to work for me.  ;D
