I've been told this revolver is illegal for use as a standard SASS revolver,,and is only legal for mounted competition. Why ? The folks that allow short stroke kits that all but make a lever gun an AR-15 have qualms about this REVOLVERS hammer width ? You GOT to be kidding ?

In any event, I purchased a USFA yesterday, just cause this paticular Ruger revolver supposedly is illegal for SASS shooting. Who makes these two directional rules anyways ? Why can not the members vote on the rules like NCOWS do theirs ?

The Great SASS Hierarchy has merely aroused my curiosity.  ;)  But, at least they sold a revolver for USFA.

The Montado is legal revolver for SASS minus the front strap serrations.

QuoteCoyote Calhoun brought the Ruger Montado revolver to the floor for potential approval as a result of receiving a Firearms Approval Application. He explained the
differences in this revolver and the Ruger Vaquero model. Discussion was both in favor and against the firearm. The majority in attendance were in agreement that
the Montado hammer is of no concern but were not in favor of allowing the Montado front strap serrations. Coyote Calhoun will convey these desires to Ruger for
action shooting requirements. A vote was taken of the TG's in attendance and the Montado hammer style was overwhelmingly approved for use for Action shooting.

Thank you. I was just confused why the hammer might be 'illegal'...and am glad to see SASS didnt see a big deal 'wrong' with such a 'hammer' style. Now,,to have a NMV with that 'hammer' would be just nifty.

I bet where there is a will, there is a way. Who knows, but the time I have  I have the jingle, maybe Ruger will have addressed the issue. I've kinda been looking at 'fast draw' and could love that style hammer on a 4 5/8 NMV Stainless for my FD revolver. If FD dont allow it,,,I'd still like it for reg SASS  competitions.

Again, thanks for the explanation.

I think you probably know the answer to this question, but in case you don't.   SASS is a business owned and operated by the Wild Bunch.  NCOWS is a democratically run group of people with a similar vision.

First time i ever held a revolver with that type of hammer it slipped right out from under my thumb,i didn't like that,i like the looks of Bisleys but i don't care for that feature, but i'm not a shooter either so to speak.

SASS members do have a vote on rule changes!  Every year  there is a meeting of Territorial Governors (representatives of each local  member club).  They post an agenda on purposed rule changes and the club members can let their Governor know their feelings on each of the changes.  There are few if any arbitrary rules imposed by the Wild Bunch since the institution of the Territorial Governors!
