Burnside rifles

Does somebody make a brass reloadable cartridge for this rifle?  I see alot of these with good bores, might be fun to shoot.

Dixie Gun Works used to sell them, but it's been years since I looked.  Give them a try.

OK, COOL! Dixie has them and also a gas collar so you can shoot loose powder. Does anyone here have any experience shooting these? Is the brass primed with a standard primer?

DUH! Never mind about the primers, these are percussion guns...... Still would like to hear from somebody who has experience with these.

I have one but it's been years since I fired it.  I used the brass cases from Dixie and also the Burnside bullet that Dixie sells.  Not sure if I bought bullets or the mould.  Use musket caps.  Use 2F powder, just enough to reach the bottom of the bullet.  If the bullet is a loose fit, use cigarette paper to patch it.   I remember the thing I didn't like about the Burnside is that the sights were almost invisible, they are so small.

That's what I used for mine (5th model, purchased in a gun shop in Jacksonville, NC for $100.00 in 1973) until I sold it before going overseas in 'late '73.  Standard musket caps work just fine, but the winged caps don't fit IIRC.

Might have been.  I remember a huge red and white target on the front and on the outside wall facing the parking lot.  Seems it may have been called the target Gun Shop.  On the main drag at the north end of town, west side.

Also bought a Thompson Center .50 Hawkin riflethere the morning after a friend and I saw Jeremiah Johnson at the drive in theater on the south end of town near the gate to Camp Lejeune.  He got a .45 version and a matching Patriot pistol.

I'm not sure I'll be able to smuggle a rifle the  the size of a Burnside in the house with out being found out as I'm supposed to be saving money for our move. Hasn't slowed down my pistol buying though.
