I have an 1873 Winchester that has been in the family for several generations but the bore is rusted to the point that the rifling can no longer be seen.  The rest of the rifle is in great condition (it had been left in a saddle scabbard for 30 years) and I would like to shoot it once in a while.  Are there any original barrels to be had?  Can a Uberti barrel be modified to fit?

Make sure to shoot low every few rounds just in case they're crawling.

with the rifle is as you stated, I'd more likely consider having the original barrel re-lined and save the original barrel for the price and originality. Sometimes a barrel can look real bad as far as the rifleing and even pitting and with a lot of bore cleaning may be enough to keep as is for light shooting. I think I'd let a professional gunny look it over anyway.
Any pics? How long is the barrel, if 24"long, it might could be shortened some if most of damge is towards the muzzle.

Absolutely look into getting the original barrel bored out and relined. That way you keep the original markings and "character".

New barrels are available, I make them quite often. There are a few outfits that will put the lettering on. Try herehttp://gunfancy.com/ . What caliber are do you have?
Can also install a liner which will make it shoot good but not change the outward appearance.
