At an antique store in an older fellers garage.Huge bowie like blade,S shaped gaurd, one side had a hole about 2mm or the size of a small nail head. The sheath was leather but metal at the top and on one side it had a nub that when you slid the knife in, the hole in the guard fit over it.Can't tell that it did anything but kept the knife snug, first i seen like that.Blade was at least 10-12 inches long and  was wide.Wood handle, i think he may have said it was military but he had alot of different knives we were lookin at and talkin about..Anybody know of a knife like that?

also had a 32 degree mason sword

You see them in the old 'Stoeger's Catalogs' from the 1960's - they're merely imported hunting knives and nothing special - certainly nothing of historical interest, but sold because of 'size'.

Any idea of where i can find a pic? Did they have a certain style name?

You'll have to locate a couple of those old 'Stoeger' catalogs.

They're called 'Hunting Knife' or 'Camp Knife'.

Seriously.

Sort of looks like this one,but with brass at the top of the leather and has the nub just a little bigger than a cylinder cap amd the hand guard has a hole in it that sticks on to it. :-\

Looks like what I call a "tourist knife" sold to tourists that want a big knife, most I've seen ain't any better than a pry bar because the steel is lousy, remember a knife that is not sharp is just a short lousy pry bar.

I think i got the ole booger talked down some,i think i am wearin him down,we'll see in about a week. He said,Welll and i said yea i know but you only paid 20.00 dollars fer it,well it original, yea bout as original as that copy spitoon over there,I'll give ya 75,well let me think about it ;D

Of course he was havin none of it,he paid more than that for  the knife and i knew that.Gotta try a different route now..

What a seller originally paid for something is a moot point, regardless of it's originality or lack thereof.

The entire concept of 'retail' is to 'Buy Low and Sell High', as well as 'Supply and Demand'.

This guy sees a 'need' in you to purchase the piece, so he's succeeding within both precepts of retail sales.

If it's a fake - after you've read references - then don't buy it, because it'll always be a fake when you try to sell or trade it, and that'll drastically affect your dealings and not in your favor.

If you're willing to pay him $75 - then you're paying retail.
