Hey Ace, you might want to try something I've been doing lately (you might already have done so) I've been carving the same design over and over again, focusing on trying to improve with each attempt. Then when I think the one I just did doesn't look too hot, I go back and look at the first one, and I can see where I've gotten a little better.

I'm not totally happy with the roses I've been carving, but the 20th one looks a lot better than the first one! I notice my swivel cuts and beveling have improved since the first one. I'm also learning not to bevel until the leather is dry enough, and that makes a big difference in quality. By nature I'm always in a hurry, so this has forced me to slow down a little, and I get better results.

Like WC said, he's been at this  long time, and it sure shows in his work.

I bought a ruby blade for my swivel back in the early 70's, still sharp and keeps on a tickin'.

Just dunt drop it on the floor, can't seem to find those jewels anymore.

Organizing the new Cave today, got a lot of things in boxes yet from the big moove and some leather to shape up into a couple of holsters.

Being re-tired, er, I mean, self employed is great.

Thanks JD! I am like you, I get into a big hurry, I plan on doing like you said, practice, and practice. This last 6 months has taken a lot away from me!! >:( I wanted to make my son some leather coasters for christmas, I wanted to put a small basket weave on them, my hands were shaking so bad, I could not keep the stamping strait. >:( >:( I go to the doctor Thursday, maybe he can give me something to help me??????
Thanks for the advice!

Ace hope it works out for you. We need you showing your work. Miss seeing it. KT

Marshal Will Wingam

Fingers crossed about the doc for you, Ace.

Have you tried decorating the coasters like a holster with a stamped pattern around the edge?

Hey Dave, I showed my wife your picture of the flowers, and she would love to know how to do that. They look great. I'll PM you my info, and thanks for the offer of the pattern, that's very generous of you. JD
